Interestingly enough, the P4P800-VM does have a working BIOS setting for the muliplier. For example, using the CT-479 jumpered to 533 MHz, I just adjusted it to 15:1 and turned my P-M 2.0/400 into a 2.0/533. I'm just beginning to test it for overclocking, but that will have to be done with ClockGen, because the VM BIOS has no overclocking capability. Too bad ASUS can't just combine both the muliplier and overclocking capabilities in all the BIOS's (and get some more out too).

you do not need a multiplier if you have windows & clockgen.

"The "ghost" mode" with this you can start windows with that fsb you want.

Btw. i´ve got this  (at the moment only single channel ram,i wait for my other twinmos twister pro)

Don´t forgett i have only single channel ram at the moment ,with dual channel super pi is going ~25sec. i thing.
The problem i have is the Asus P4P800-SE ,over 260Mhz fsb its not booting. :/

Btw. air cooling with the asus ct479 cooler , 2hour prime ~61° (its a little bit hot)

conspectumortis... wasnt there a wire mod for the socket478 533fsb cpu to default them to 800fsb? i remember seeing it somewhere but cant find it. Wouldnt we be able to do the same thing so that the cpu's default fsb is 800? ie jumper asus adapter to 133 then wire trick for 200fsb in the socket478. Just got a P-M 730 @$155 from ebay... check out this PM 730 @250fsb :O

You are macci from the xs Forum ? i know you :)

To your question.
I don´t know such a mod.
We tested to set the jumper on the Asus CT479 to 133mhz fsb with a Pentium M Dothan B1 (100Mhz fsb) , but i the bios it was still on 100Mhz fsb. (it doesn´t work, perhaps somebody can handle it shortly)

You do not need such a mod , because you set in the bios only few Mhz over 133Mhz fsb and you got the 4:5 Ram divider. (that was for me important)
Then you go in windows ,using clockgen to set higher fsb.
I have only the Asus P4P800-SE motherboard and i can´t go higher as 240Mhz fsb :/

If you are able to read german you can look at my sig, there we moot about the adapter ,too.

Btw. i need shortly a german to english translator

no sorry im not macci... he lives in Finnland. I'm in USA, Texas. I used bable fish but not everthing was translated correctly.... Bsel mod *found what i was looking for finally* http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php? ... t=bsel+mod

i was thinking to my self that we could default the cpu to a 200fsb with a low enough multi. The 730 has a 12x133 then have the mobo see it as a 200fsb cpu giving a 2.4ghz.

Apoptosis,

Nice review. My question is how high can you go on vcore? Seems everyone is limited to ~1.6v, but the BIOS says up to 1.9v+. :?

BTW, I have a P4P800-DX (non-e) that I am currently typing on with a 760. Clocks to about 2.7 stable on stock cooling and 1.6v, but it is FSB-limited and when I change the multi to 10 or 12 I can't go above ~185 (this seems to be an issue on a lot of the P4Ps other than SE and VM).

Oh well, not so bad on an unsupported board using the wrong bios I guess. I'm getting a P4P800-SE this week. Then it goes under the phase change. :snakeman:

My experiences are chronicled here.

I will look forward to updates to this thread...

looks like im haveing some trouble with my setup...
p4p800-se
p-m 730
512mb ddr400 kingston

im going to reflash the bios but after changeing out the p4 to the pm i only have options to 1.6v in bios and asus probe reports 1.58v in windows i can run 2.4ghz but going to click on startmenu and restart. i get blues screen even though superpi ran just fine as well as prime95. I have set in bios to boot the cpu @166fsb. i can do this with the voltage set @1.55v which reads 1.53v/1.51v-idle/load. I tried to u wire mod for 1.65 but when i check in bios it still says 1.6v and the lowest is now 1.475v. I have undone the uwire mod...

i hope the bios reflash fixes this little voltage problem....

*edit*
the problem of the cpu not going farther was the fact that i had to use a power Y cable to power the hdd's. it boots into windows with 1.6v(bios) AsusProbe reads 1.59/1.55-idle/load. Its currently running prime95 @216fsb, it fails prime95 @220fsb.

When you say the lowest vcore is 1.475 do you mean that's the lowest option your BIOS allows? Because I almost have the exact same problem (lowest I can set is 1.500V, highest 1.600V). I don't mind having 1.6V as the max but I'm not doing extreme overclocking so I'd like options all the way down to default (1.26V for a C-M 350).

I'd like to see how far this CPU will go on default too. If I could even set default :?

edit: Also running a P4P800-SE board (latest beta BIOS as well)

when i did the Uwire mod for 1.65volts on the cpu the lowest option was 1.457volts did you do the uwire mod? the only thing i can suggest is to reset the cmos. then on first bootup after the reset check you voltage options is should go from 1.2x-19xvolts. i didnt have to reflash to get voltages back just reset cmos. so you using the 1009B for the SE or the 1008? The kingston ram im pretty sure is holding me back from taking the cpu higher. As macci over @xtremesystems.org got his Pm 730 to 2.8 on air with the same 1.6v in bios but i think his board was droop modded. well im going to mess with the ram ratios to see if the cpu can in fact go higher..

No, I've had this problem without the Uwire mod. It always defaults to ~1.56V reguardless of the CPU installed and doesn't give me options to drop it any lower than 1.5V. I've tried clearing the CMOS, removing the CMOS battery, reflashing, etc... etc.. nothin' corrects it. Interestingly after I clear the CMOS once it'll give me options for upto 1.95V but the second you save and exit the BIOS only has 1.5 - 1.6V selections.

im starting to think that its with the celerons PM's. Not to sure since i dont have one to play with. In bios the lowest i can go for voltage with the 730 is 1.2v. Did you flash down to 1008 and then back up to 1009,maybe try that? I dont know what else to do to help ya. GL though!

*edit*
at 1.3v set in bios i can boot to windows @200fsb. by setting the voltage to 1.6v the highest im able to boot into windows with is @225fsb. i had to use the ram from my main rig... the looser timing gave me superpi 1m 29sec @2.7 cas3-3-3-8 which was the same as 2.6ghz cas2.5-3-3-6. now i think its more a factor of the hsf holding the cpu back now..

Yeah I've tried flashing back and for between the 1008 official BIOS and the 1009.001 beta BIOS. With the official one I can't adjust the vcore setting and it still defaults to ~1.56V. Oddly enough, it always defaults to that, I have both a C-M 340 (default: 1.356V) and a C-M 350 (default: 1.26V). Either the adapter or the board seems to be ignoring the VID request.

I plopped a Celeron D 320 into the board just to see if there was anything wrong with the board but all worked fine, defaulted to it's proper VCORE (1.36V). I'll have to wait until asus pops out another bios and see if it fixes this.

Sorry to crash in here but you guys seem to have some experience that could be handy for me :)

I've just purchased an ASUS CT-479, ASUS P4C800-E and a Pentium M 760.

Problem is.... it's not working as it should be :( I'm getting the speed reported as 800Mhz in the BIOS and in Windows (CPU-Z shows this as well). I notice that the CPU multiplier is set at 6x which does seem to be the root of the problem :(

Has anyone got any thoughts/inspiration? I've e-mailed ASUS tech support but past experience hasn't been good (no reply at all) so I could do with anyones views!

Here's the 'interesting' bits from a CPU-Z report:

I'm not after overclocking or anything - just it to work like it should! I're really appreciate some help! TIA!

Edit: Should have said this:

1st off tried BIOS 1021 and got CPU voltage incorrect errors. These were silenced by BIOS 1022 Beta 3 from ASUS.de FTP site. BIOS has been reset (jumper on board) and defaults loaded. Jumpers on CT-479 are set for 533Mhz CPU. Power connector is plugged in to CT-479. BIOS settings all set to AUTO, no overclocking or manaual adjustments made.
