Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT Video Card Performance Review

Post by Apoptosis »

Last week we brought you a preview of the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT and today we bring you the numbers as we have a card in our hands. After putting the GeForce 8800 GT through eight benchmarks and power consumption testing the results are clear. The GeForce 8800 GT graphics card is priced right and performs better than more expensive graphics cards. Read on as we compare it to six leading graphics cards from ATI and NVIDIA.

For now, we have to give a thumbs up to the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT and welcome it with open arms to the GeForce 8800 series. This card should be a big hit this holiday season as it offers serious performance at a mainstream price tag that most gamers can afford. If you can't afford it however, this card is worth saving up for.

As a side note this is my first video card review since Aug 27, 2003 when I reviewed the ATI 9600 PRO, so please hang in there. I know I didn't change the color in the charts for the 8800GT bar and the next GPU review will have this. Feedback is more than welcomed, but be easy as it's been four years.

Nice review Nate. I've had a couple buddies interested in building new systems in the next few weeks. We'll await the results of the ATi tests, but most of them are big fans of the way my rig looks, but don't want to spend the money for the GTX. Seeing the GT finished a step behind at half the price might just be what the doctor ordered. Thanks!

Nice review Nate! I guess Im the only one who isn't waiting to see the ATI offerings. The only thing I am waiting for is to see the price of the 8800GT at or below MSRP. Damn opportunists...guess you can't blame them, right?

The thing about this card that has me somewhat perplexed is that nVidia has angered a lot of their customers. At least the ones who recently purchased a more costly, and in some cases less powerful, 8800 series card. Interesting...I know they are giving the GTS series a makeover, but that doesn't help the people who bought the original ones. Makes me glad I waited it out for once. 8)

DROOL!

Nice article. I wish they would start following the idea that $250 is the max a high performance card should cost ;)

Once the ATI benchmarks come out, I guess I will make my decision.

Mike

Although I am leaning more towards nvidia anyway due to past experiences with ATI ( argh )
