NVIDIA is launching another video card based off the ever popular G92 GPU this morning! The GeForce 8800 GTS 512 MB is the latest video card in the NVIDIA line-up and is available in the $299-$349 price range. The new GeForce 8800 GT 512MB video card has 128 stream processors, support for PCI Express 2.0, dual-link HDCP support, and the second-generation PureVideo HD engine!
The original BFG Tech GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB OC video card is pictured above the new XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB XXX Edition graphics card. While the cards are the same length they are obviously very different. The clock frequiences on the reference 512MB cards are 650MHz/1940MHz with a sharder clock of 1625MHz, but XFX overclocked their XXX edition up to 678MHz on the core, 1972MHz on the memory and 1700MHz for the shader clock for even more performance. The XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB Alpha Dog XXX Edition that Legit Reviews is looking at today comes with the part number PV-T88G-YDD4.

Just checked Newegg and they have a bunch of these in stock right now by six different brands... I'm not sure how many of these that they have, but you all know the GeForce 8800 GT 512MB was hard to find the first 30 days.
*
XFX 8800 GTS 650/970 - $369
*
BFG 8800 GTS 675/970 - $389
*
EVGA 8800 GTS 650/970 - $359
*
Gigabyte 8800 GTS 650/970 - $369
*
PNY 8800 GTS 650/970 - $374
*
MSI 8800 GTS 730/972 - $379 - MSI NX8800GTS-T2D512E- OC is the model for the Overclocked card
The MSI card for $379 looks to be a pretty good deal. It has a 730MHz core, 1944MHz GDDR3 memory clocks and 1825MHz shaders and also comes with the games Dirt and The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar. The XFX XXX Edition card I reviewed here for the site has an MSRP of $379.99 and is 678MHz on the core, 1972MHz on the memory and 1700MHz on the shaders. The 125MHz gap on the shaders and 52MHz difference on the core is going to make the MSI card faster for sure.

It might be the way the pic was taken, but is the card touching the SATA port?

Since the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB has a dual slot cooling solution it is close to the two SATA headers, but there is some space between them. Here is a better shot from the side of the motherboard looking down the graphics card. The Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 motherboard has a pretty nice layout to be honest.

Nice review. I've been waiting for this to know if my recent investment (8800 GTX Superclocked) was worth it or not. I think it was, but I'm sure I could have had just as nice of an experience w/ the 8800 GTS 512MB. Man, that card is just amazing for it's price point.

Well, you know how bills come up. I'm probably going to have to wait till next paycheck to get around to it. On the brighter side, hopefully the price will drop a bit in the next 2 weeks.

Triple SLI articles on the NVIDIA 680i SLI motherboard come out tomorrow from what I hear... If you own 3 GeForce 8800 GTX's or 3 GeForce 8800 Ultra's you are in luck.

it really seems like the 8800gtx would have been such a great investment when it first came out, even today it can still destroy most games and is offering even new stuff after being out for so long

Great review as usual . Finally someone (LR) included the 88800GTS/640mb among the tested cards (vs. the 320mb) .

.
Looks like I'll be keeping my newly aquried GT as price vs performance its a keeper @ $210 . The new new GTS is abit more than I want to spend this time around . For the price of one GTS I can have a pair of GT's in SLi (which sounds great for me later down the road).

Zertz,
A long time to wait for your answer, but here are my overclocking results with the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB Alpha Dog Edition by XFX...

The core went from 678MHz to 805MHz
the memory went from 986MHz to 1152MHz
the shaders went from 1700MHz to 2018MHz
As far as performance... Lightsmark went from 308.5FPS to 352.0FPS... a 14.1% increase

Wow, those G92 cores are alot better than the ones on the 8800GT. I'm surprised you can run the shaders linked at that speed, my XFX 8800GT isn't stable above 1730~. Although maybe it's just that the GPU has more voltage by default.
At those settings it's probably just as fast or even faster than the Ultra?
Great card overall, not much more expensive that the (eVGA, XFX...) GT's and it seems like it's worth it!
