Is Your Linksys SD2008 Switch Overheating or Losing Connectivity?

The Linksys SD2008 10/100/1000Mbps Gigabit switch has been around since 2004 and is one of the most popular and widely available switches on the market. Many owners have noticed that the Linksys SD2008 version 2.x switches have been failing after several months of use. Our Linksys SD2008 switch also started having issues recently and we replaced it with a version 3.0 switch and the problems were solved.

I ran into this issue with a different model, but I couldn't find the receipt for proof of purchase. Luckily I bought it for a friend so it wasn't my loss, but I felt bad not being able to find the receipt. Oh well, I'm just glad they're "trying" to address these issues.

I've purchased several SLM2008 switches (the same thing as the SD2008, but with an integrated web management interface) to be used at my workplace. In 6 months, I had 5 of 8 fail. They would stop routing packets, and when reset, they would not respond at all. All of them seem to run pretty warm. Even Linksys' 48-port switches seem to run pretty warm, and have intermittent connection issues. There weren't any issues in getting RMAs to return the little 8-port switches, but i noticed that the replacements I was shipped are the same version. I expect I'll be going through this again.
