AMD Athlon X2 7750 and 5050e Dual-Core Processor Review
Quad-Core processors are all the rage these days, but with the economy down and out people might want to take another look at dual-core processors to keep your household budget intact. AMD is today announcing the Athlon X2 7750 – a STARS-based (Phenom 65nm core) processor that is a brand new dual-core processor based on the Kuma core. Read on to see how the CPU does!

Quite the interesting processor. It sits in a tough spot in the market. It doesn't offer much of a performance boost over the Athlon 64's of yore, it doesn't offer much in the way of overclocking compared to a similarly priced Intel part, and power consumption was much higher than needed. All in all I'd say it's a product without a purpose. Roll out Phenom II AMD, then we'll talk.

Not a bad little part as you saw it was able to hit 3.3GHz at 1.475V on the factory heat sink.

Thought I'd point this out before I forget about it. Still reading/skimming the review.
To compare the Athlon X2 7750 to something recent on the dual-core front we will be looking at the Athlon X2 5050e as well. On October 21st, 2008, AMD launched the Athlon 64 X2 5050e processor, which is based on the 55nm Brisbane core.
You meant 65nm right?
K finished the review. I can't believe AMD is shipping these with heatpipe coolers. Is that a 2 heatpipe design?

that is indeed a typo you caught, so thanks! I changed it to 65nm.
As for the heat sinks I believe that is what AMD is shipping them with, but I'll double check. I got shipped a box of ones I used in the review, so I used one of those.

I would, but I don't own any E5xxx processor... If I had one I'd test it... I tossed in the 5050e to make up for it though as I thought that would have some interest.

No they don't caome with an heatpipe HSF they come with some shonky little bifurcated (simalar design to Intels stock coolers the radiate out from a central core) aloy jobbie
