PNY & XFX GeForce GTX 285 Video Card Reviews

The new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 graphics card offers 10% greater performance than the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 and has improved power consumption numbers and overclocking. That is because this card is based on the new 55nm G200b core! Both the PNY and XFX GeForce GTX 285 graphics cards have some serious packed in under the hood, so read on to see how they do against a GeForce GTX 280 graphics card.

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 video card proves to be a step in the right direction for NVIDIA in taming power consumption. The 55nm revision has enabled higher efficiency and increased overclocking overhead while still keeping thermals in check. I suspect in the near future we'll see a few GeForce GTX 285s with lighter coolers and 3rd party PCBs to cut costs. The two cards reviewed today, the PNY GeForce GTX 285 and the XFX GeForce GTX 285 Black Edition, both consistently beat the PNY GeForce GTX 280 used for testing...

Depending on the work-unit you crunch, somewhere between 8k and 9k PPD seems to be the average. If you are looking for a F@H card, the GTX 260 216SP 55nm(that is a mouthful) is a much better perf/$ deal.

Any rumors of a GTX 265 emerging for those of us who think the GTX 260 is enough performance?

none that I've heard but it would be rather pointless IMO considering they already beefed up the 260 once.

I'm in the process of getting some final numbers for a 55nm GTX 260 review. Nvidia chose to not make a GTX 265 and instead just seamlessly replaced the older 65nm core with a 55nm core. The card runs a little cooler, consumes a little less power, should be cheaper when it hits the shelves, but overclocks about the same as the 65nm GTX 260. They should retail for $200 or lower I imagine, great buy if you want to fold :supz:
