XFX 850W Black Edition Power Supply Review

Post by Apoptosis »

XFX is well known for making video cards and motherboards. Now they have moved to power supplies, and we are taking a look at their first offering from them, the XFX 850W Black Edition. Join us as we see how it performs with our Core i7 test system.

With the fan out of the way we can get a look at the heat sinks and capacitors inside the XFX 850W Black Edition Power Supply. All of the capacitors are high quality Nippon Chemi-Con. Those who are really into power supplies just "ah ha". For those of us who are not, what we are looking at is Seasonic M12D guts in an XFX wrapper. This same platform drives the PC Power and Cooling Silencer 910 as well. With this many names of big companies known for quality parts this should be one sturdy PSU.

Woah that fan is bright. Definitely scorch your retinas green. Looks like a nice PSU otherwise, a few too many hard-wired cables for my taste but nice performance. It didn't blow up at 850w and higher which is great

Once you put in a case you wont see the color so it doesn't bother me, I like it. The performers is what I'm looking for in a PSU.

The XFX 850W seems to be a really solid PSU. Might consider getting a PSU from XFX for my next PC; try something else instead of Antec for a change. :)

This is a modular PSU and 80 plus silver which brings up the price a good deal.

I'd personally take a single 70 amp 12v rail over 4 20 amp, as well. This is more of an enthusiast PSU vs a budget.
