I heard that about the schools as well. Using them as digital books. My brother was tell me that if you have ipod touches or iphones that you can use multiple ones with the ipdad to play some new scrabble game and use the ipdad as the scrabble board and the ipod/iphone as your tile holder... Would be nice if it played well with other makers devices. I can really see this shine at home as a media center controller, but not sure if it would be universal or not or if it would only control other apple media products...Illuminati wrote:I just had a few minutes hands on with one and my first impressions are it is fast and the native iPad apps out there now use the screen res pretty well. the ABC app was also impressively fast at page loads (using pre-downloaded content).
As far as a big market, I know there are some educational institutions that are already planning on distributing these to their incoming students for use in the classroom and businesses are already using these as POS (Point of Sale) systems with apps like Square. That's not counting the consumer market for people that think they are cool. Did I mention it is fast?

I can't really see myself forking out $ for it...unless I could be convinced to spend my $ on a more full featured laptop.
Intel Core i5-3570K, MSI Z77A-GD65, 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3, Intel 320 Series 80GB SSD, Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo cooler, Antec Three Hundred Two case, OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w PSU, WD 2TB HDD, Win7 (x64) Pro
Re: Apple iPad 16GB Wi-Fi Edition Tablet PC First Impressions
I can't say I get the attraction. It seems like just a big iphone. I think I'd still stick with a regular laptop, I know it's a bit bigger and bulkier but they are such useful tools and I spend enough time browsing the net at home. I'm also one of those people that believe after all the apple fanbots buy them it'll fade away. Final cut still rocks, just to show I'm not a hater.
Re: Apple iPad 16GB Wi-Fi Edition Tablet PC First Impressions
well, i'm totally a hater
never owned any mac products, ever. had to use the pieces of crap all through schooling(like grades 3-12) and quickly grew to hate the OS(first ones I used had 5.25" floppies, had a decent game or two 'at the time' (as we didnt have a home computer)
i see their computers as "popularity" versions of dells, overpriced for a crap computer with crap options, and their portable devices are a pain and nothing more(size is nice tho, ill give it that). i'll take folders with "play all" over itunes playlists any day.

Same setup here Joe.
You could like apple if you had any sense of style
I agree that for enthusiasts, there's little to no tweakability, so they aren't suited for hardcore users, but that doesn't mean they're a platform that has no use to others.

iPad security broken in less than 24 hours
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/04/06/ipad_security/Apple's iPad has already been jailbroken, using a variation of the iPhone method and demonstrating just how much the two devices have in common.
The hack was completed in less than 24 hours. In theory it enables the owner to install everything from Wi-Fi scanners to pornography - applications Apple disapproves of - though for the moment it just allows a remote terminal connection.
Re: Apple iPad 16GB Wi-Fi Edition Tablet PC First Impressions
No big surprise about the hack, the hacking community has gotten so good there's really no way you can stop them anymore. Besides, having a jailbreak available probably will encourage many people to buy it for the free apps and such. Personally I wouldn't even want an iPad for free if i still had to pay for apps.
Re: Apple iPad 16GB Wi-Fi Edition Tablet PC First Impressions
It is a neat toy, but nothing else.
I am not a windows fanboi nor any fanboi. I just can not understand why someone would pay ridiculous amounts for a computer or device that is not worth it? Maybe it is just because of me being on disability and having to watch how we spend money but Apple products are good but SUPER expensive.
Don't use the "they just work and keep working" line either. Apple computers need repair just like everything else. Main reason it seems like they are working better is that it is a closed system. Microsoft could do the same thing but everyone would turn on them and say they are a bad company, blah blah blah.
Did you ever wonder - if Apple computers are so great, why dont all businesses use them? Price is a factor a lot of the time, but also the ability to use them with the products out there. If more businesses would use Apple product then we would see a shift away from Windows and Linux as a whole, plus we would see a TON more virii and spyware for Apple computers. Apple would turn into Microsoft with all the hackers gunning for it.

Oh and I think MacOS is great, it just sux you cant legally have it on all computers!

Re: Apple iPad 16GB Wi-Fi Edition Tablet PC First Impressions
i was discussing this with a couple people in the office today.
what are the real benefits of the Ipad over a solid netbook? netbook can do a lot more, install actual programs, are still small and portable. the only thing the ipad has over a netbook is the screen size and touch screen??? and you are still limited to ipad apps? doesnt add up in my mind.
