GIGABYTE G1 Assassin X58 Motherboard Review

The Gigabyte G1.Assassin is the flagship motherboard in the GIGABYTE G1-Killer series. Based on the Intel X58+ICH10R Chipset, this features a gun clip heatpipe design, 16 power phase design, Dual CPU Power and Driver MOSFETs for the best in power stability. Gigabyte also put on Sound Blaster X-Fi Digital Audio Processor with X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity for superior audio to make your games sound better. Read on to see how this board does as it costs $510 and for that price it better be perfect!

The GIGABYTE G1 Assassin X58 motherboard packed with features. In fact, I don't think the could pack anything else on the board than they already did. In order to fit everything that they did, GIGABYTE had to move away from the standard ATX form factor and increase the size of the board to a XL-ATX form factor. The XL-ATX form factor measures 34.5cm x 26.3cm, opposed to the Standard ATX form factor which measures 30.5cm x 24.4cm. The increase in the form factor size gave GIGABYTE an additional 163.15 square centimeters. That's a gain of 21.9% in the total real estate on the PCB for all of the added features. Despite the increased real estate on the PCB of the GIGABYTE G1 Assassin X58 motherboard, GIGABYTE managed to fill it with features.

That graph is off. Shouldn't the G1 be highlighted also for the burst speed?

All I can think looking at is the neon green makes it look tacky. Though I hope this becomes a product line and they add in a Z68 version when they come out, and Bulldozer/SNB-E when those chips launch. I like that it includes the EAX support and even the killer card.

I love the concept of the board; dedicated sound & NIC integration is amazing. Price is killer and they should have waited for newer chipsets to do it as well.

I agree with you. Hopefully we will see something like this series of boards on the Z68 or P67.
