Rosewill Thor V2 XL-ATX Full Tower Case Review

Almost 2 years ago, XL-ATX set out to be the defining standard for enthusiast grade motherboards. Some early successes came about since EVGA and Gigabyte released boards using the standard, but it never became mainstream. With that said, today we get to look at another XL-ATX case design for gamers with the Rosewill Thor v2; which is an update to the original Thor that we reviewed back in March 2011.

"Based on community feedback, Rosewill decided that the Thor case needed a slight redesign and came up with a second version called V2. The changes that Rosewill made to the Thor XL-ATX case are rather minor, but there are four changes that you should be made aware of. These changes were not made clear in the companies press release on the THOR V2, but we contacted the product manager for this case in Taiwan and got some answers for you..."

A case this big compatible with mini-itx? Put one of those in and you still have room for a six-pack inside...Gotta love how their covering all the bases with this one... ;)

mITX holes over-lap with 6 of the mATX holes; so it's not really an issue to support it.

Though, that still questions why you'd run a 4 slot board in a case designed for 9 slot boards

Yeppers, that's what I meant, their sales dept is loading up with all available keywords to reach the widest possible demographic.

I just wish companies clearly listed the changes on these cases for customers to know the difference between V1 and V2.

It wasn't really clear until I asked enough for Rosewill USA to get in touch with the product manager over in Taiwan!

Why would you use all that old hardware in foldng system as it uses more electric than its worth. A 2500k would match it for points and use much less power. 2600k would double it. or a single gtx560 ti to replace those 2 cards

a guess, its better to put it to use folding rather then setting doing nothing or in a land fill.

or, if like me, don't have the cash laying around to throw at new hardware. Some folding is better than no folding.

That "old" folding hardware is still a rocket compared to what many have in their main rigs. I'm guessing that the folding rig will have extended life now with the extra cooling this case provides over what it was in before.

If you want to donate some GTX 460's and a 2500k to the cause; I'll be glad to run the, but those old cards are happy where they are. I could fold on them, or sell them for $50 on Ebay and just off load them.

WU's are WU's, doesn't matter what you crunch them with.
