Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600 CL9 Memory Kit Review

Corsair Vengeance DDR3 memory modules are designed with enthusiasts in mind. The kit we have today is an 8GB (2x4GB dual channel) 1600MHz memory kit which features 9-9-9-24 timings at only 1.5 Volts. Cerulean Blue aluminum heat spreaders help dissipate heat, and provide the aggressive look that you want in your gaming rig. This kit was designed for Intel Sandy Bridge processors and it will be interesting to see how it does!

The Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600 CL9 memory kit comes in what Corsair calls "Cerulean Blue", which Corsair claims is designed to match the color found on motherboards supporting 2nd Generation Intel Core Sandy Bridge processors. To our eyes, this particular shade of blue is only found on ASUS motherboards, although other manufacturers such as Gigabyte and MSI do offer motherboards with blue accents.

are you running them at 1T or 2T?

I've got my Corsair XMS CMX4GX3M2A1600C8s running at 1600/8-8-8-24 T1 unganged in my Giga785 board so I assume you can do the same if these are even better. I've never OCd them to the 1833 though, I thought I read that tighter timings could be better than higher clockspeeds.

I was not able to tighten these down to Cas 8 with any stability.

It depends on the benchmark. Check out our overclocking page in our review. Some apps respond to better latency, some apps respond to more bandwidth.

I'm really tempted to buy a 2nd set now for $50, but I dont know if I will get much out of 16gb of ram over 8gb. Awesome ram though, and I love the Blue color!

It sounds like the best think Corsair did to these modules is the blue heatspreader!

I have no idea why a 20MB/s RAM kit would be considered enthusiast grade? The price is nice for 8GB but that merely makes it budget, not enthusiast. Enthusiast would be 2133Mhz and above with OC potential and possibly tight timing (even though timing doesn't play much role with the sandybridge platform).

So can someone explain to me why is a 1600Mhz kit named enthusiast?

Because they call everything enthusiast when they put a fancy heat-spreader on the stick.

I don't mean to be a party pooper but fancy looks don't mean s**t. Performance does. Anyway beside not being an enthusiast RAM, this kit is still a very nice one for a budget rig
