This morning Intel released their 3rd generation Core processor, which is codenamed Ivy Bridge. This groundbreaking processor was developed right here in America at the companies facilities in Oregon and is the 22nm die shrink of the Sandy Bridge microarchitecture with some performance improvements

Nice review

I can see an i5-3570k or i7-3770T finding a new home in my new build.

There's something about an i7 running at only 45W which has me tempted.
I run my pc 24/7 but do need some horsepower at times.
It should be a nice upgrade, going from a 1.6GHz generation 1 core2 with 2GB

I think I'll wait till after the summer as prices are going to stay high until after the mainstream chips come out.

yeah, those 45W TDP chips will be interesting!

I know the overclocking section is weak in this article and I am working on improving it. The Gigabyte Z68 board I am using has a BIOS bug where it is treating the Intel Core i7-3770K like a locked processor and won't let me go past a 39x CPU multiplier. I have been in contact with Gigabyte Taiwan and they are looking into it.

I am setting up another Z77 board to run overclocking on, but I wanted to run Z68 for this review as that is what all my testing has been on for the past 6 months and there is no real CPU or GPU performance increase with Z77 at all.

It seems, there is no sense swapping out my 2500k to this new chip. "don't fix it if it ain't broken"

Can I propose a small tweak in review layout- to visually distinguish generic test descriptions, maybe using quote tags. I personally cringe a little reading "DirectX10, the new graphics API from Microsoft" and similar written in plain text.

Yeah, the next time I re-do the test setup I'll do that. Just a matter of time as you know.

Great review BTW (sorry for the late post, but I was permanently band from Forums yesterday, but in good standing today)
I'm confused with the 3770 besting the 3820 in the Sisoft Sandra 2012 SP4 Multimedia Processor Test.
Thought that this is what the E series is all about and that all that extra bandwidth/cache is what multimedia is looking for.
Confused
Got any ideas?
