The difference sets of earcups influence the sound character and the velour pads do make bass frequencies sound anemic. Put on the leather pads and you'll get more bass.As I prefer the soft velour earpad, I have placed them onto the earcups.

You are correct, while it wasn't spelled out, It was tested with both earcup pads, the bass is pretty good, but not as powerful as some others. Really depends on what you consider "sufficient" or "too much".
