Today we take a look at the Marketing Behind DDR2 memory & there is a lot to talk about. I hope that everyone walks away from this article having learned something about marketing and DDR2 memory!

Looks like we shook a few things up today with our article over at Corsair Memory...
Not even an hour after posting our article it seems that Corsair had a meeting with even CEO Andy Paul (That Guy -- inside joke) attending. The outcome of the meeting resulted in a major change of the testing methods that Corsair is using on their XMS2-5400 part. Not only does this show you are article was headed in the right direction it also shows that Corsair CARES what is going on and corrects something it deems incorrect. Here's an official statement from Corsair in response to your recent article. You may want to post this as an addendum just to clarify a few points to your readers:
"Effective 7/21/04, ALL Corsair XMS2-5400 modules will be tested at 675MHz, which makes them true PC2-5400 modules (8 x 675 = exactly 5400). That effectively makes Corsair's XMS2-5400 parts the fastest DDR2 modules currently available. Our specifications, which currently state our XMS2-5400 modules are tested at 667MHz, will be revised today to reflect the new 675MHz test spec. Furthermore, Corsair's XMS2 Pro Series is the world's only DDR2 module with activity LED's and a high efficiency cast aluminum heatsink.
Corsair is aggressively phasing out our XMS2-4200 modules. We will continue to offer JEDEC standard PC2-4200 Value Select modules."
Thanks!

nicely done...the numbers on these modules need to more accurately reflect honest numbers and not simply marketing hype...a bigger number is not specifically a better spec, as intel has been seeing as the megahertz myth evaporates....gamers and hardware enthusiasts are usually pretty well informed and it's nice to see this kind of change occur from corsair...means they're staying honest with their buyers....
this is also exactly the kind of solid information that keeps my eyes on legit....nice job --

I'd like to see a more in depth article including legit benchmarks.
It's nice to see Corsair relate to their customers when this sort of thing is revealed. This begs the question of initial intentions of the more expensive line vs value line.
Good job on keeping these memory manufacturers on their toes.
