The AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ processor is the first 3GHz dual-core processor for the socket AM2 platform and is priced at half of what the 2.8GHz FX-62 cost when it was launched. We take a look at performance, power consumption and overclocking to give you a look at the big picture. Read on if you want to see how the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ stacks up to the competition.

While the launch of the AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is nothing ground breaking, it does help AMD bridge the performance gap with Intel and will give Socket AM2 owners something new to drool over. The Athlon 64 FX-62 is no longer the flagship socket AM2 processor as our benchmarks clearly showed that the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is the faster part to have. If we had to guess this will be one of the last socket AM2 speed bumps before AMD releases their native quad-core processors later this year.

i remember when my dad was building pcs out of our house (for friends and family) years ago and AMD was king. i'd like to hear more about those energy efficient processors, so maybe i'll go poke around the net for info.

oh minor, minor detail but there's a typo on the last page
We were able to get 3.37GHz with full stability out of the 6000+ and found that hear was holding us back as
"heat"

great review!

great review glad to see you were driven to hit 3.4, I bet on water those would do great. The cnps 9700 is a great cooler though as far as air cooling goes.

it's nice to amd folks as it brings some performance increase but it can't beat core 2 duo in all aspects. I guess we'll have to wait for the next gen of amd to really see a perfroamnce increase.

Those load results should be used as evidence that you aren't a biased reviewer. Even though you have a favorable review of this processor overall you still acknowledge its short comings. One of many things I like about LR
