The $829 GeForce 8800 Ultra Video Card Arrives

The GeForce 8800 Ultra takes the world’s fastest GPU and pushes it further: with a core clock of 612 MHz, a shader clock of 1500MHz and a memory clock of 1080MHz, the GeForce 8800 Ultra sets a new benchmark for 3D graphics performance. The GeForce 8800 Ultra will set you back at least $829, which makes this not only the fastest, but one of the most expensive cards out there.

Very interesting on the performance decrease when using Vista... I wonder if that is just NVIDIA driver limitations on the new OS or if it is a problem with Vista itself...

Looking forward to seeing LR's own results!

i'm wondering if 8800 GTX's in SLI would out-perform a single Ultra....

The mind boggles at how faster clocks on the same architecture uses less power!

Seems strange too that there are a couple of minus performance advantages over the GTX, surely again the same architecture doesn't need drivers to be updated to take advantage of just a raw speed bump?

But the bottom line is:
If you want winXP GTX speeds* on Vista then get the Ultra :P

Oh yeah, and when you do get an ultra, blag another one and go V8 on their asses :P

Easily. A pair of 640MB GTS would outperform it as long as the game supported SLI.

I'd say more of a Preview :) XFX is sending us out a card here in a week or two, so we should have a real review on this card by when it comes out on May 15th if all goes as planned. These AIB cards are more important anyway... Reference doesn't mean much.... XFX will also have three Ultra versions a regular, extreme and XXX... So I'm interested in seeing what the XXX will be overclocked to. People are raising the core form 612 to over 700Mhz on these Ultra cards as the CPU to Shader ratio is different and it has better capacitors, cooling and yadda yadda.

strange... I didn't see an R600 ;) We've had R600 for some time and will bring you the review on it when the NDA has lifted.

Hi All,

I can't believe anyone's going to pay $829.00 for a single card. That just boggles the mind.

Im guessing that the XFX ultra that you recieve will go into someone's system rather than go out as a contest. man would that be a great contest!

Dont think the thing would even fit in my case

Great review! The price tag is too high for the performance difference i believe, but i guess its only for hardcore enthusiasts.

None of our review samples ever go out as contest prizes... The contest prizes are all retail products that have a warranty... wouldn't want to send something out that is pre-production with no warranty to you guys.

absolutely true. LOL i guess let me rephrase that...... 300-350$ for 10% increase. LOL

still no thanks!! even so 830 is way way way too much for a card, especially since 8900's are coming out sometime soon.

*Yawn*

Wake me when the 8900s show up. That's the soonest I'm even letting the thought of a new video card cross my mind. And that assumes that there are DX10 games that I want that will NOT run on my 7900GTXs. That is, there is no decent-looking fallback render path for DX9. That's not going to happen for a while.

Yeah price is ridiculous. Absolutley unacceptable.
I'm just afraid that we will see that kind of prices more frequently if ATI/AMD will fall down ,hope they will menage with their financial problems

Thanks for the review
the price is very high if it was a little lower then 8800GTX would also get a lower price.

the XP\Vista compare is good , i never knew there is a such a difference between the 2 regarding games
