We have the lastest that the marketing department sent us. I just called them now again and asked for the driver you mentioned and they said I have the latest... They 8.37.4.2 is built on May 9th if I recall correctly.

Attached are the CCC screenshots of the two drivers that I have from AMD/ATI that I have been using. Hope this helps... AMD said some partner leaked some drivers but they were older than what I was given.

Thanks for the details.

I don't have any inside info on what driver pakcage is current. I just had noted that the driver package version shown in the Release Notes linked in the
AMD knowledgebase article dated May 11 at http://support.ati.com/ics/support/defa ... onID=27535 is 8.37.4.3.

I expanded the Vista driver package and the versions match those in your screen shots. The atiumd* files in this package are dated 5/10.
7.14.10.155 3,211,776 05-10-2007 atiumd6a.dll
7.14.10.155 2,805,760 05-10-2007 atiumdva.dll
7.14.10.496 4,090,880 05-10-2007 atiumd64.dll
7.14.10.496 2,797,056 05-10-2007 atiumdag.dll
6.14.10.6570 7,553,024 05-10-2007 atioglxx.dll
6.14.10.6570 11,247,104 05-10-2007 atio6axx.dll
7.1.1.634 3,107,840 05-10-2007 atikmdag.sys

Perhaps the package version change from 8.37.4.2 to 8.37.4.3 merely denotes that what was given to you as a beta was then released generally the next day.

Must be intense to be a driver coder and tester at AMD right now.

I just got in touch with a good guy that is one of AMD's head driver guys and he said this on the version confusion...
.2 is newer. Don't ask how or why it won't make any sense. But rest assured you have the newest.

Long time poster first time lurker.

I hope you update this article when you can get the DX9 version. I want to see if DX10 is taxing the cards more. I imagine it will but I hope it isn't like the PhysX card and GRAW.

Good to be here, I've wanted to ask a question here and there or add my $0.2. I finally got around to arduous task of registering.

well its good to see that the dx10 vista driver problem isn't just an Nvidia issue. I never thought it was, considering Nv's XP drivers have always been great for me.

Does Crossfire/SLi work in Vista yet?

yup SLI and CrossFire both work in Vista -- Brian has one card and I have one card though.

I'm getting tired of this, "release the card w/ shoddy drivers" crap the 2 keep pullin. Hell, I couldn't play Splinter Cell til 3 months after my GPU was released!

yeah -- I'm not impressed by the driver situation either... They had enough time to get them better... rumor has it that the 8.38 drivers that will replace the 8.37 drivers will be greatly improved... Now it's a waiting game.

Kinda of an eye opener but I am sure, just like nVidia did, ATi will get better drivers soon enough. I mean the HD2900XT has only been out for one day.

Ati Need to get more in the game like nvidia

Post by NKD »

i cant belive that ati doesnt sponsor as many games as nvidia, almost everygame i play has the green nvidia logo on it, no wonder nvidia cards are always performing better, i love nvidia for that, and that is why ati comes with all those specs on the paper and their hardware is always on par. and thats why their drivers are always optimized for performance later on.
they dx9 driver talk for themselves performance wise, i am sure their stability is great but performance wise they suck so bad on some games. so i wouldnt be surprised that they havent really done crap for dx10 titles. hopefully they get their act together.
i saw in games optimized for the card is as good as gtx sometimes and on the other hand it gets smacked by even gts.

i do believe that by the time lost planet is released the we will see great results.

i have to give the credits to nvidia maketing though, they really know how to ruin ati's launch. i mean release the demo sponsored by nvidia right after r600 launches, they probably know it runs damn good on their hardware. shoot i would probably do the same thing if i was nvidia.

Just got the heads up that the ATI card doesn't render the snow due to global warming ;)

Ok, so after finally getting the DX9 version, and hunting the interwebs for missing DX dll's, I finally get it to play to find that it only supports upto 1024x768. (I know that my 7900gs would struggle at 1440x900 but I want to try it anway). There appear to be some low res widescreen options but they leave a black border on my widescreen monitor?!?! Patch the demo already!!!

Due to popular demand for also benchmarking a GeForce 8800 GTS OC 640MB video card I have updated the benchmark results with an 8800 GTS. BFG Technologies overnight mailed me one, so now I have one to benchmark. Enjoy!

Why the cave test is 'stuck' at 44FPS on both nvidia cards at different resolutions is beyond me. The caves scene uses procedural geometry creation for the cave rock walls (DX10), smart particles for the waterfalls and insect flocking with physics (DX10) and hyper realistic shading for shading and displacement (DX10) so it should be a great DX10 benchmark.
