Beijing Opens Clinic To Help Online Addicts

I'm surely addicted to the internet, but I don't know if it makes sense to have an IV drip with unknown drugs and 30-Volt zaps to my pressure points to cure my addiction. It may sound like something from a 60's US Government LSD expierment, but this is taking place in China's first official online addict program.
The routine begins around 6 a.m. and includes sessions on a machine that stimulates nerve impulses with 30-volt charges to pressure points. Some patients receive a clear fluid through intravenous drips said to "adjust the unbalanced status of brain secretions," according to one nurse. Officials would not give any other details about the medication.

A psychiatrist for 20 years who specializes in treating addiction, estimates that up to 2.5 million Chinese suffer from Internet addiction... China has fewer people on the internet than in the US, so does that mean the US also has an addiction to the internet or is this a regional situation? What ever happened to going outside? I mean are the days gone when you tell your children to go play outside? A friend of mine wants their children to stay inside where it is safe and they are always on a computer, game console, or watching television. When I grew up we got to play in the woods & creeks and were often riding bikes or playing sports with the other kids in the neighborhood. None of my friends were fat, but we all were active on a daily basis. People don't need to have drugs and shock treatment to get off the internet. They need to understand that a world full of fun and adventure awaits everyone, you just need to walk outside and expierence it.

I'm not too sure about all this... What are your thoughts?

addicted to the net.. nah, my pc... when my old system kicked the bucket I thought I lost my left nut. never thought I used the pc all that much till I coudn't do it anymore.

I have heard of people breaking up or getting devorced because one of the two couldnt stop with the net/games/porn...

to go as far as shock treatment for it... thats a touch extream.

as for the going outside thing, yeah when I was a kid it was "get out the house, stay where I can yell for you"

now with my kids, I throw them in the yard to play but I go out with them (4 and 6) now there are some folks in my nieghborhood that let their kids go all over the place
