Re: Pirates Try Taking Another American Ship
At what point are international shipping companies going to hire mercenaries to escort their cargo? I'm sure that even with Afghanistan and Iraq still going on Black Water has "employees" ready.

I'm pretty sure that Blackwater sent a boat out that way last year. I wouldn't be surprised if they are on some of the ships out there.

I am suprised that these ships aren't carrying some major firepower. It is international waters, shoot at the damn pirates if you are being attacked!

The problem is when they come into port many countries don't allow the ships to be armed.vicaphit wrote:I am suprised that these ships aren't carrying some major firepower. It is international waters, shoot at the damn pirates if you are being attacked!
Re: Pirates Try Taking Another American Ship
I guess there is really no way around that, unless you just left a guy floating with a bunch of weapons off the coast!

Sure there is, there are millions of Kalashnikov's floating around. Arm up with a couple dozen. Upon entering a port where weapons are a no-no just pitch them overboard. If you throw 15 of them over with 1000 rounds what are you out $500?Apoptosis wrote:The problem is when they come into port many countries don't allow the ships to be armed.vicaphit wrote:I am suprised that these ships aren't carrying some major firepower. Re: Pirates Try Taking Another American Ship
Heres what i think we need:
a specially out fitted strike group patrolling the area off the north eastern coast of africa, with several LCS's and patrol boats each with a SWCC team/boarding party. These would be commanded/controlled by one or more destroyers, maybe a cruiser, plus a frigate or two, along with all of the support craft. Maybe a Wasp class if we decide to start going after them on land. This would let the pirates know that were not ******* around here. Pirate ships should be destroyed on sight and Transport crews should be at least lightly armed.

Re: Pirates Try Taking Another American Ship
I caught an article on Yahoo today about a Canadian ship that detained some attacking pirates, took their weapons, and RELEASED them! The article went on to say that most of the times pirates are disarmed and released because the laws are murkey in international waters and the various entities don't want to get caught up in legal entanglements. So where's the deterant if the worst thing that these scum face is that they get their toys taken away?

Re: Pirates Try Taking Another American Ship
We should disarm them and let them go. Preferably over the bow of the ship
