North Korea declares it conducted nuclear test

Post by Apoptosis »

North Korea claimed it carried out a powerful underground nuclear test Monday - much larger than one conducted in 2006 - in a major provocation in the escalating international standoff over its rogue nuclear and missile programs. Pyongyang announced the test, and Russia's Defense Ministry confirmed an atomic explosion at 9:54 a.m. (0054 GMT) in northeastern North Korea, estimating the blast's yield at 10 to 20 kilotons - comparable to the bombs that flattened Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

President Barack Obama said a nuclear test would constitute an act of "blatant defiance" of the U.N. Security Council and a violation of international law, and only further isolate North Korea.

North Korea's claims "are a matter of grave concern to all nations," he said, calling for international action in a statement from Washington. "North Korea's attempts to develop nuclear weapons, as well as its ballistic missile program, constitute a threat to international peace and security."

agreed. I also suggest covering our eyes when we press the "Accidental Launch" button..what we didn't see, we didn't do lol. Plus i also think that we should hit them before they hit us. (that's just me though)..I mean..they used a similar yield we did on Japan..if that's not enough of a sign to shove one up theirs, I don't know what is.

I would vote for this

IMO they're just looking for the attention and world reaction. I can only hope by ignoring them and isolating them that they will learn that you can't make threats and then turn around and expect the world to respect you.

Kim Jong II is trying to solicit a response... He wants everyone to give them help! The people of N Korea are dirt poor and food, energy and daily needs basically dont exist.
IMHO, I do not trust Kim Jong II, he unfortunately has the mentality that Power commands Respect!
If he does not get what he wants. it would not surprise me if he tries to nuke S. Korea and or Japan when he has that capability! This guy was and is more of a threat than Saddam Hussein ever was!

Typical North Korea saber rattling. They do this every time they need something. So how much does it cost nations in the world to provide the occasional aid vs. the cost of a war and then rebuilding? Remember that we are bound by the Hague to help rebuild any government that we topple, so consider that before you start lobbing nukes at dirt poor villagers.
