What is going to happen to the State of CA.

Post by vbironchef »

I live in LA county. I just found out yesterday that our local state tax is going to be raised again. A few months ago it was raised from 8.25% to 9.25%. Starting July 1,2009 it will be raised again to 9.75%. I just heard on CNBC news that the property tax might go up 2000.00 a year. I know the state is broke, but come on. Any thoughts out there? I know the U.S. won't bail CA. out so what else should I expect in the future of CA.?

There are a couple citys in CA that I know have taxes up over 10% total between state and local. I have to maintain the tax tables in our ERP software at work.

Heard a rumor the other day on the local talk radio that the govenator was looking to shut down or tighten the requirements of welfare for CA, with the riots that happed over the King beating I'd hate to see what happens if welfare went away for most the state....

Bubba, I heard that the govenator might consider selling some of CA. state parks to create some cash. I think this is a outrage. Only time will tell but things don't look good.

it probably isnt a popular or kind thing to say but i dont see the problem in being a revenue issue, it's a spending issue. CA needs to stop spending money and use the money more wisely. robbing peter to pay paul would only be a temp fix (that what the last election was trying to do). There needs to be some major changes. somehow he considers himself a republican, but he doesnt act like it.

there will be a major earth quake, CA will break off from the US, and become its own continent of the rich and famous, lol

j/k i think they just need to raise the taxes for the upper class who can actually afford retardedly high taxes like $10Mil a year even, how the economy is set up, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, this isnt news, the government just wont do anything to fix it

Remove ALL of the illegal immigrants, which in turn will open up THOUSANDS of jobs which people will then actually have to pay tax on, which will help the state.

Everyone always wants to find the "politically correct" way of doing things - get our country back from the illegals FIRST, then the problems will start to go away.

Problem is blue collar people don't want to do those jobs.

Think this is mainly due to those parents that decided that spanking kids is wrong, hand everything to their kids with out making them work for it and let their kids "express" themselves. I know a good fair amount of people my age that just flat out refuse to work because they have had everything handed to them. My ex's little brother is a good example. He will work just long enough to fill the state requirement to get unemployment again, get fired, and set on his *** until it runs out again.

The system is flawed, tighten the up the rules and what it takes to qualify, as well as shorten the time you can get it.

There was a city/township here in STL that ended up in the supreme court due to laws that would fine anyone renting to or employing an illegal. They were taken to court on basis that they were going against the fair housing act, well guess what they are ILLEGAL the rule doesn't apply, the court held that up. Same should be for illegals.

Our country gives away WAY to much money that we (as a country) don't have to give.

Personally given his track record I believe Ceaser, I mean Obama, will give the state money from the Federal government to keep his Utopian Welfare State alive, no matter what it costs the rest of the nation. Look at Texas, they're the second most populas state in the union and they don't seem to be having these finanical problems... and as a matter of fact, didn't they JUST recover from a hurricane... Hmmm.

If Obama gives them Federal Aid I'm going to be furious.

The states have let themselves become beholden to the Fed for money for thier operating budget. Strictly speaking, our taxes are backwards. The State should collect the lions share while the Fed should take a smaller chunk. That way your taxes go more to supporting the actual institutions you use.

Money is Power. The Fed controls the majority of the money, thus they have the power. While the states fight for scraps. Take schools for instance. There should be almost NO Federal support for schools. The money for schools should come ENTIRELY from the states budget and be contolled at the state level. That way the people have more say in the quality of education thier children recieve.

Tax up here in Ontario is 5% GST and 8% PST, totalling to 13%. Couple years ago, the total tax rate was 15%.

As for property tax, I'm not too sure but it's pretty expensive as well. They're also proposing to add in tons of new taxes. HOORAY FOR TAX! :axe:
