Honda's new motorcycle airbag system, unveiled Sept. 8, 2005, includes crash sensors that monitor acceleration changes and an electronic control unit that calculates when a collision is occuring. The system will be installed in Honda's new Gold Wing motorcycles and is scheduled for release in the U.S. in the late spring of 2006.
Honda executives said their airbag works best in a straight-angle frontal collision up to 31 mph. I haven't looked at the stats, but I would think most accidents happen over 31 mph and at high speeds it might hurt you more than help. Good thing it is on the Gold Wing Motorcycles and not sport bikes.
