ouch. that democrat got owned hard. however, i bet there are over a hundred republican congressmen and women who treat returning troops the same way. i don't think it has to do with ideological differences...
i think it has more to do with having way too much on your plate. people in government work nonstop writing, drafting, amending, voting, canceling, and redrafting proposals as well as creating networks and relationships with other government officials and politicking.

Yes, the officials have a lot on their plate, but they need to get facts correct and back them up with sources. I often wonder what "studies" and sources our lawmakers use for their data. Also, I agree that it is really not cool that they got a letter from the governor thanking them for their service in Iraq...

word.... all i'm saying is that it probably happens with both parties based on what was already described as possible reason.Amy wrote:![]()

I am sure both sides do leave them hanging. They left my brother hanging after his nerve damage, they let him go without pushing for more medical treatment and McCain and others basically ignored the times he contacted them about a few procedures that were still possible.
While I am a Federalist, I despise politicians, since they aren't Statesmen. Both sides think they are the best of society when they are just usually asexual whores.
But the Left is the worse in talking about the attitude of troops, when I know enough and haven't met one who is demoralized. I have met some that felt screwed, but it had nothing to do with Iraq.
One buddy came into town, and just found out that since he was discharged they are only giving him 18 months of Tuition rather than the 34 he was told he would get. He was wounded and has the scars on his arm and face and will probably never run again (morter blew up just to the left of him), yet they don't think they should pay for the entire college bill. That is an issue with the politicians and not mission.
It pisses me off to no end that these people are willing to give the richest people group in America (Seniors) free medical, but penny pinch on veteran's benefits.

(This is gonna be a heck of a first post for me. Usually I start off with a question or helpful advice.)
Having served for 9 years I can honestly say the GOP is no better than the Democrats at taking care of the military. The republicans like to take credit for being pro-military and supporting troops, but thats just so they can be on the opposite viewpoint of the Dems.
In reality things were actually better for us during the so-called "Klinton" years.
George Junior didnt do anything to improve our situation his first term. His second term isnt looking so hot either, but thats a problem for my brothers to deal with, not me.
We will never see things improve unless folks stop voting for the two major parties.
Oh, and since someone else made their declaration, I usually vote for the Libertarians or Constitutionals. Sometimes Federalists. I'd like to see someone put in charge that actually cares about fixing things, instead of hooking up their rich corporate buddies.
EDIT: Crap. I forgot about the OP. Sorry folks.
Anyway, my opinion on that is:
Since politicians are too good at politicking and not interested in helping people, its in their interest to never actually debate anybody on anything. Ever notice how they NEVER answer a question directly? Even with reporters? They always divert the conversation within one sentance and then go off an a completely new topic. One they know they can win.
We who have served in the military wont do that. We cant. We know that problems need solving. BS is never a good answer for us. But it seems acceptable for our bosses.

Interesting. Everyone I now who was in during the 90s said it was hell compared to the 80s or now (save the prison sentences in the ME).In reality things were actually better for us during the so-called "Klinton" years.
I am looking to go in after my last surgery in 2 months.
The biggest problem is that Congress is dealing with everything under the sun, rather than what the Constitution says to deal with. The Constitution says that they should be dealing with a limited amount of issues and the rest left to the states, but you have everything under then sun that the Congress can no regulate.
Another issue is that the Constitution actually says that the Feds are to deal with National Security, but not one dime is mandated to be spent by law toward military spending.
On the other hand, it is the law that Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and even education has a certain amount spent on it (which, by the way is more than the military spending). Does anyone else see an irony that Military spending is called "Discretionary", but social program spending is called "Mandatory" spending.
Unfortunately, little will change till people know what the Constitution says and what it is that is expected out of them. I remember Reagan tried to end the Dept of Education, and people cried that he was trying to make our kids stupid. Ironically, they already are stupid:
