I got this in an Email not sure how accurate it is.
Two moons on 27 August
*Aug 27 the whole world is waiting for.............*
Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.
It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye . This will culminate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Re: Two Moons???
This is from 2003. Mars' next close approach to Earth will occur in December 2007, but even then it will still be about 55 million miles away from us, not nearly as close as it was in 2003 or 2005. Not until 2018 will our view of Mars be similar to the one that was available in 2003, and it won't be until the year 2287 that Mars will come closer to Earth than it did back in 2003.

Re: Two Moons???
Alas, no second moon
...while mars was out last night, it was definitely not moon sized...oh well, about the only things of interest this time of year is mars (which rises about 12:00) and jupiter (sets about 11:30) so try to spot jupiter at about 9-10 o'clock and get up about 3-4o'clock to get a nice view of mars. If you're lucky, you'll catch venus rising just before the sun does. They all look like really bright stars that don't flicker with mars being red, jupiter a whiteish-orange and venus white.
Pull out your good binoculars and have a look-see (though I'd only use one eyepiece).
Peace!
