Interesting card trick

Post by Alathald »

I recently ran across this card trick and thought it was pretty cool. It uses a simple phpBB command and is a pretty simple trick once you realize how it works. See if you can figure it out without looking at others comments...

OK pick one of the following cards. Don't click on it, just think about it, keep it in you head and concentrate on your card.
Image
OK slowly scroll down, continuing to think about your card

Think about your card for 20 seconds. Attempting to read your mind!
Scroll down after 20 Seconds

Still remember your card? Good, but only five cards remain so do you still see your card? Hmm I must have just happened to remove your card, pretty lucky huh :)
Image

Weird huh? Scroll back up and try it again.

Good ol' image tag

Oh well, I didn't think you guys would fall for it but it's amazing how easily the mind can be fooled.

Couldn't view the card trick images (I'm at work and we can't see much in the way of images on websites), but Alathald, your avatar is trippy!

Haha thanks, it's one of my favorite shapes known as a tesseract and it's actually a 4 dimensional shape that is projected into 3 dimensions, kinda like if you draw a cube on a piece of paper you're projecting a 3 dimensional shape into 2 dimensions. It's constructed with 8 cubes (much like a cube is constructed from 6 squares or a square from 4 lines) and mine is rotating about a plane much like you can rotated a cube about a line or a square about a point. Trippy huh?

Also, just like a cube can be unfolded and laid flat in 2d (looks like a cross made out of 6 squares) you can unfold and "lay" a tesseract flat in 3d, would look like this:
Image
and to fold it up:
Image
Also, don't try to make one, that last animation involves some 4 dimensional 'folds' and seeing as we live in a 3d world, it would present some problems :)
