One of my brothers friends was told as a joke to put the oil in his Disel 4wd before he emptied it to get the right amount of oil. He did this and then when ever he started the car and turned off the key it wouldnt stop so he had to stall the car to stop it...

I use a wire-mesh strainer to get the plug without dropping in the bucket or getting hot oil on the hands.
It only costs a dollar at the dollar store.

*ahem* *raises hand* Although, the Prius only needs it every 5000 miles...My father was very good at making sure we girls (my sisters and I) learned the importance of car maintenance. Heck, I even change my own tires ...
BTW, has it even occured to any of you to let the car cool before beginning the oil change?

you should talk to my sister, all she does is get gas, and fill the wiper fluid(sometimes), all the rest just happens magicly(by me and/or my dad)
and yeah, you have to have the car warm at least, otherwise, i believe the oil would take forever to drain

Yep, I drive my car about a half mile and back, then change the oil. Even that amount of driving is enough to heat the oil up pretty well.
