My thoughts on my recent gift (iPod nano)

You'll have to convert them to H.264 or MPEG4 in order to play them back on the iPod. Very user friendly isn't it? :P

If you wanted video you shoulda said so, the Archos AV500 and Cowon A2 are great PMPs and support both DivX/XviD, well... the A2 supports both, the AV500 just DivX. WMV support in there too if you have any videos in that format.

Best of all, you don't have to reencode ANYTHING, and they even have TV recording and playback features.

I converted my AVIs to MP4 using ImTOO (Just found it today). It's shareware, so it only converts the first 5 minutes, but all my music videos are less than that so I'm fine :) . If you have a lot of big movies to convert, you might even buy it, it's $29 and is well worth it since it also optimizes the quality and resolution for iPod (allowing you to change your 700 meg file to 100 meg one) and can encode multiple videos at once. I also believe it can convert from any major video format to MP4 (might even convert back to regular formats from MP4 too, haven't checked yet).

I decided to go with a Cowon iAudiio X5 30GB MP3 player for the simple reason that it offered other options. Like being able to listen to FM radio, record radio, and voice recorder, etc. I liked having the extra options built into the MP3 player. Plus I think it has great sound quality( better than my friends ipod video). Very simple set up and easy to use. Screen seems scratch resistant.

Feel free to check it out as an excellent choice option to an IPOD.
