Kitchen getting done

Post by KnightRid »

Well been absent for the past 2 days helping the contractor work on my kitchen, I should really stop doing that crap as it just kills my neck :(. Anyway, a TON more expenses tahn we first thought, but it is slowly getting there. Our new stairs are in and all the demo work should be done. Electrician is coming today and maybe coming back Monday to finish, plumber is coming Tuesday ( idiot that redid our bathroom a couple years ago used sink piping on the bathtub stuff, never soldered or anything jsut used compression nut things to hold everything together ), then the contractor will be leveling the floor and drywalling. I am hoping by next weekend that I can start to install the wood flooring (Sams club!!!) and the week of the 12th have everything totally done!

Will post pics when it is done!

Mike

Oh we were going to be buying a cooktop, double oven, adn a new frig, but due the a LOT more expenses we will have to just slowly buy those things over time - so once we get the nice stuff, the kitchen will look even better :)

Just noticed I spelled Electrician wrong..lol..*sigh*
fixed

Mike

I will up the cabinet pics as soon as I resize them since 2mb pics are a bit big for here

Its been hell! It has gone WAY over budget, borrowing money from her parents to finish! I am trying to help as much as I can to keep the costs down, but my neck has almost given up :(

They are done putting the blue-board up ( drywall with a different paper so they dont have to mud, tape and sand - they just tape and then plaster over the whole thing, once and done! ) I have to wait for the guys to come in and plaster it, then they have to put some floor leveler on the floor and cut a whole through the roof for the stove vent ( big SOB! will have pic today! ), then i get to paint, then install the wood floor, then the cabinets, then the neighbor will hopefully be making me countertops since we HIGHLY doubt we can use that big ass piece of granite for the bar top! WAY too heavy!

I will be posting pics in a little bit - working on trying to resize them now.

Still debating wether to upload here directly or to upload them to ImageShack so it doesnt kill your bandwidth.

Mike

I WILL (I promise) get pics up TODAY 8-9-2007! or you can all hunt me down and kill me :p

OK here we go

First will be the Old kitchen cabinets....you might see part of the old kitchen with these. I do not have any pics of the kitchen other than these, so you will have to imagine how ugly and bad looking it was :)

OK I found 1 from the old kitchen - you can see the wall that was knocked down on the left - best i can do - faces smeared so they dont get mad :) Was the kids 18th b-day party.

Next will be 2 pics of the pipes for my bathtub - the plumber had agood laugh and asked taht I take these to pass around his business so others could laugh at my misfortune also :p This is from the bathroom remodle we had done by an IDIOT which we will have to have done AGAIN down the road :(

Then will be the old stairs - best pic I have with a pissed off naked cat :)

Then the new from the side - the pieces of wood on the tops are for protection when they moved it in and installed it - they will be removed once all the painting and mudding is done.

Then the pics of the kitchen so far - exciting huh :p

Ok 3 attachment max - going to use imageshack.

Ok well I am using photbucket - more of a pain, but imagesahck wasnt working for me today

Mike

my daughter just called me - havent heard from her in a couple years now :) She just turned 15 last month! Her mother must be getting nicer in her old age to let me hear from her

Plasterer was here last night to take a look. If his price is ok, he will be here starting Tuesday evening and will take him 2-3 days to get done :( Wish the contractor could find a guy that could do it in 1 day *sigh*

MY LORD - $1200 to plaster! Wht the helll drugs what that guy on! My contractor gave me an $1800 estimate to drywall, mud, and tape!!! We went with the bluecoard because the plastering was supposed to be even cheaper!

I may not have a finished kitchen for a while unless the contractor can find someone else he removes $1200 from his price because they didnt tape and mud!

Mike

$1200 for a 14X17 kitchen just because it has a lot of corners.

I should get into the remodeling business - its like the Mafia but legal. Pay us, or you have a shitty looking house. Sorry the estimate was $800 off, but we had to take a couple extra breaks

Ok, contractor came by with a new guy, same $1200 price :( but it looks like from the contractors early estimate we would have to come up with $400 more - ONLY $400 you say :P *sigh*

He will be here next week sometime to do it. So it will be even longer till the kitchen is done.

You do make me laugh mike :P

Hope you don't get run over budget by much more than they have quoted now, but building work always seems to run over budget.

Do the plaster work yourself. It's not really that hard.

Would but ruptured discs in neck and upper back make it difficult to do repetetive work, or anything above shoulder height.

Laughing is what makes life at least a little better ;)

We are so far over budget we were going to get a new frig, cooktop and double oven, but now they will have to wait till next year at her bonus time (not a little here and there like we thought - will take till next year to get caught up :( ). Oh well, our frig still works and we have a regular stove that will be good enough till then :)

$1200 for a 14x17 kitchen... that's everything? The cost of the materials, labor and even painting right?

238sq. ft for $1200 -- $5.04 a square foot... That's a pretty good price honestly if that's all the material and hanging, taping, painting. A guy locally charges $5.25 a square foot for the whole deal with white paint.

just to tape you can expect to pay between 28 cents and 35 cents a square foot for a big job, for a job that small you are going to pay more cause it's not going to take long and they have to drive there. I have over 3600sq ft in my basement to tape and even on something that size they said it was just going to take several half days to tape. I got 5 bids and all were $0.28 to $0.35 a sq. ft. here in Missouri. Some of those were the illegal mexicans too ;)

No no - $1200 is for JUST the plastering and taping. Contractor already hung the blueboard which was in his costs! I still will have to paint afterwards too :(

all together with the steps and kitchen we will have at least $6000 tied up in it, including the cabinets I got at a hell of a price!

Mike

Construction always seems high in PA :(

Plumbers around here are charging around $60 an hour! Electricians are around $40 an hour!

Maybe we should move to a different state :)
