For the longest time I have been using my Garmin GPS V. I absolutly 100000000% love it. Through it in the pool, the snow, go into the rain with it. The thing is a freaking beast. But now is time to get a little more high tech with my gps as the mono color isnt doing much justice anymore.
I have been wanting to stick with garmin as i am true to them, but i have been reading and hearing the tomtom gps's offer a lot more, and those of you that know me, i am gadget GEEEEK!!
I am looking at getting the new, released this month the tomtom GO 720. I am wanting to see if anyone has used tomtom in general. You like thier gps's, service, support, etc...

I used one for a while. I liked it, no complaints here. The main complaint people have is that the maps are older than Garmins. I didn't find it to be an issue and if I remember correctly, map updates from TomTom are free and frickin' expensive from Garmin,

do you have to pay a monthly fee for GPS units? I have been putting off getting one because I understood that there was a fee.

No fee at all. NONE the only fee if you want is for the live traffic updates, which are about as good as the ones you hear on the radio from a non talk radio stations.
Trust me, once you get a GPS its like you cant live without it! I still use my older GPS and love it. I just would like to upgrade.

Awesome! I might buy one next time I get some disposable income!
Do these things work in rural areas where cell phone reception is unavailible?

Speaking of GPS. Have any of you heard of those people that do GeoCaching?
It kind of odd. People go out and hide stuff in cool places and other try to find it. I'm not sure why.
You check at this site and read all about it. There's probably caches near your house. That site will tell you if there are.
Kinda interesting a guess.

Haven't done any but found out about the practice a while back.
Its like the grown ups version of a treasure hunt.

my father in law had a TomTom and it worked pretty well on the one trip I used it for. But if I buy one, I'll have to go Garmin, or my buddy that works there will disown me. ;)
