Vis-tah or Vee-stah

Post by DMB2000uk »

I've met a couple of people who claim to know a fair bit about computers but pronounce vista as "vee-stah"(!)

I think they don't know how to say it

How do you guys all pronounce it?

I think I used to say vee-stah, but that's because the word looked like a Latin-based word to me...I think being around Illuminati, I've unconciously switched to saying Vis-tah.

I actually have a hard time saying Vis-tah.... but that's what you hear on commercials...

I personally relate it to the spanish word vista (view).... and that is pronounced vee-stah. So that is why so many are pronouncing it that way... So, in effect, I think M$ doesn't know how to pronounce their own product!

I believe it's supposed to be pronounced vis-tah but I pronounce it vee-stah because I have a slight speech impediment (I stutter) and, as Illuminati pointed out, vee-stah just rolls off the tongue easier... :dunno:

I call it Vis-tah because frankly, I'm not Italian! (No offense meant to Italians!)

Try saying Vis-tah with an Italian accent, it's Vee-stah! Just something I noticed...
AMD Opteron 1224SE "Santa Ana" = DFI Lanparty UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G
Crucial Ballistix 4x1GB DDR2 800 = Corsair CMPSU-750TX
Sapphire 4870 1GB = Sceptre X20WG-Naga 20" = Logitech X-530 5.1
Seagate 320GB (SATA II) x2 = Samsung SH-S203B (SATA)

I suppose you can safely call it vis-tah, Dan, judging by the votes, and Bill Gates. If you look at some interviews with Gates, he pronounces vista vis-tah.

Whenever I hear vee-stah it's from people who are pretty computer illiterate. I say it vis-tah each and every time. :)

Voted for Vis-tah, although one should just pronounce it as "Shi-t" (jk... )

Actually, it is far from "perfect" OS, but I'm currently have the VISTA Ultimate installed and I got over most of its bug already... :)
