I never seen an American idol preliminary round person sing near as good as this, let alone get a standing O from the whole house.

I think that mobile phone salesman is in the wrong profession!

He has an incredible voice, but he lacks the "IT" factor. His looks and lack of charisma will keep him from winning. You may find that harsh, but anyone who watches the show knows exactly what I mean. Not to mention the fact that no one has ever made it into the top 12 that sings Opera. I am curious how he would do with other genres of music...can you imagine him singing country or rock?

I agree that he may not win the competition, but that probably doesn't matter -- the people that need to hear him to get a career going have probably already heard him (or will shortly). Like he said, his dream is to sing opera. . . I think he has a definite opportunity to achieve his dream.

its a good thing he went on the show, regardless of if he wins (i'm with ibleet, i doubt he'd win grand prize on this type of show just due to the "it factor") he's still getting the publicity he needs to get out of selling those darn cell phones
what he's getting now is his name out in circles where he didn't necessarily have the means/gumption to do so before. i think that if he's willing to take the steps to an opera career, he really has a good chance of success.
coming from a music student though, i can see where he just needs some professional tweaking in his performance, especially in his vowels and diction, but he's definitely a real diamond making his way out of the rough!

I wish I could find the link now of another person on that show who did puppetry/ventriloquist performance to a mix of Michael jackson and some other things it was hilarious.
EDIT: found it!
