Visiting Poland

Here's something quite off-topic:
I'll be visiting Poland for work for a month, or maybe a little more. I'm an Indian.
Don't get me wrong, but this will be my first time abroad and I'm very worried
about cross cultural sensitivities (I don't like using the harsh term "racism"). What are the Polish people like in general and how is the acceptance of foreigners in the society? I feel a little embarrassed saying this, but my skin is "colored" as some say.....so that social stereotype of "inferiority" does apply to me, unfortunately.
When I say "acceptance", I'm not implying that I intend to get married, laid and drunk out of my wits there. I mean just social mingling, making friends etc. Any advice anybody? I hope somebody has experience in these forums!
If there are risks involved, I'll opt out of the programme I'm into, even if it means a setback for me. The last thing I want is some ugly events taking place.
