I think (this is a think) that the silver has had the same affect that silver nitrate has on you skin?
Now i know i got a D for chem but, When your skin comes into contact with the silver nitrate it 'stains' your skin like above.
Just Maybe the Silver he had been drinking had been having some kind of affect on his body causing his skin to turn 'blue'.
