What the hell happened to free games on cell phones

Post by Apoptosis »

Some of you know about my problems that I have been having with Cingular and my Motorola V600. To make a long story short the V600 and Cingular's network don't mesh well, resulting in many dropped calls. That is also why Cingular doesn't offer the phone in the USA any longer. I paid $299.99 for my phone back in April 2004 when it came out so I haven't been a happy camper at all. Cingular has replaced my phone 3 times with no luck. Finally my Motorola contact sent me out the V551 ($149.99) that works on the Cingular network for sure to get me a working phone.

When I got the V600 it came with full versions of Stuntman and Bejewled. The new V551 only comes with the demo of Bejewled (1 level demo). When the one level ends (after 5 moves on my first try) it asks you to buy the full version. Since both phones have bluetooth I was going to "move" the games from one phone to the other, but lord behold the consumer doesn't have that option. I was also amazed to find out that JAMDAT (the maker of Bejewled) wants $5.99 per game title!

I mean when did the phone companies go so cheap! I guess I could buy the usb data cable and use microsoft live sync and transfer the data, but damn does it really need to be that hard?

I also noticed that the movies that the V551 takes aren't allowed to be transfered bluetooth. I can understand games since you are supposed to pay for them, but hell if I can't send a movie that I took to a friends phone then what is the point. Oh wait... they charge for data transfer through there network... grrrrr All about making money. They are trying to nickel me to death! :finga:

hehe im in a simmilar situation with verizion, first of i like small light phones, and i dont want one that will cook my ear in only 20m because i am sometimes on the phone for 2+hrs. Needless to say i got stuck with a masive heavy phone that i cant even put in my pocket because it prevents me from bending over. The real killer for me is that there is no way for me to transfer any of my pictures/vids/audio from my pc to the phone, if i want any new ringtones i have buy from verizon or pay an other site + the data charges, if i want any pictures or video they have to be taken using my phone or agian purchased from verizon or a 3rd party + data charges. All i can say is the phone companies suck, i dont get to have the phones i want unless i switch service (not an option because of contracts) and i cant even use things i OWN like music from my cd's on MY phone. ... **** the establisment im going haxor... o wait did that already damn it.

So...I remember when phones had like 5 or 6 games on them, even if they were lame. You know, things like Snake...what happened to that? My phone has one game -- blackjack, and it takes FOREVER to get from hand to hand! I agree...it's all about the money.

Exactly my point! What happened to those days? I mean with a $149.99 phone w/ a 2yr contract I expect more than a one level demo game.

I have V400 (through Cingular) and I haven't had any issues with connectivity. Mine came with Bejewled and Prince of Persia. I later bought Texas Hold 'em for 2 or 3 bucks. I rarely play them unless I am stuck waiting somewhere (Dentist/Doctor's office). Typically though, I bring my Pocket PC and play games on it instead. The games are better and the screen is larger. Plus, I can listen to MP3's at the same time. In a few years I'll just go for the PPC phone and get all in one. The moral of the story, technology bites :P
