ALAPAHA, Georgia (AP) -- A team of National Geographic experts has confirmed south Georgia's monster hog, known to locals as Hogzilla, was indeed real -- and really, really big.
They also noted the super swine didn't quite live up to the 1,000-pound (450-kilogram), 12-foot (3.6-meter) hype generated when Hogzilla was caught on a farm last summer and photographed hanging from a backhoe.

Why was it shot? Then, why was it just buried? whats the point of killing an animal and not eating it?
Can you imagine the size of those pork chops/

I bet the meat would have been tough on that pig...but I wondered the same thing about eating it. They could have at least skinned it. I would have sold it to Ripley's Believe It Or Not and let them stuff and display that pig!
Also, to answer Vstrom...it is similar to mountain oysters.

my guess is that what you see coming out there rear is bloat. this animal had been dead for at least 6 months, and after that long the body starts to decompose....I'm actually pretty surprised hat it is as intact as it is

Those aren't bloat, hanging back there, he's just hung like a hog (I garuntee the meat would taste really bad).
This was the orginal picture shortly after death.
As far as killing it, even a 150# wild boar is deadly (and very aggressive) this monster would destroy your car to get at you.
