Stupid iTunes Question

Ok, I am now using iTunes, but I have an issue. I know how to transfer playlists, but I have a ton of stuff that iTunes imported and synced that I DO NOT want on my iPod.

How do I selectively import stuff to the iPod? How do I put stuff selectively on without having to put it in playlists?

Basically, I like keeping my playlists cleaned up and neat, but I have a ton of audio lectures and books. Those things don't need play lists.

I selected everything I wanted an then tried to drag and drop and that didn't seem to work. Also, I tried right-clicking and there wasn't an option for putting it in iTunes.

I know a techie like me shouldn't be needing stupid things like this answered, but I was spoiled by Anapod for years.

Have you tried checking "Disable automatic synching" in preferences?

No, I didn't even know that exists. I'll do it when I get home and let you know.

You can also set an option to only auto sync the ticked songs on the main library.

But that sucks as I can't see a way to quickly tick/untick bunches of songs.
