What i really plan on doing to it is cutting off all the panels, all rusted to hell, shortening the chasis and moving the driving position. How hard can it be?

What you need to do is move to California and go surfing! :)

I call that a VW Bus. I can't even imagine it as a Bush Buggy. Are you going to run this thing real hard or just use it to get across some fields?

If you shorten the frame, make sure it is square when you put it back together. You may be better off turning the back end into a pickup bed or something.

Stripped down oldskool VWs are awesome but you usually see people doing this to Beetles...not sure how well a offroad Bus will do, they look like they'd be a bit top heavy.

i was really just planning on cutting it down to jsut a chasis and then working up from there so there would be no roof or anything else until i decided to put it or, so i can make sure it isnt top heavy. And btw the engine is rear mounted so i cant make it into a ute.
