When I say fliers about the NVIDIA chipset recall yesterday I figured that some recall activists managed to infiltrate Nvidia’s Nvision 08 visual computing conference to stir they pot. It wasn't just once yesterday, but a number of times these people were handing out fliers inside the event. Then today we say new fliers posted in of all places the bath room.
This time around at the bottom of the banners an organization took responsibility of the posting. It was Unite Here.
Who is Unite Here you might be asking as we did. Well, It’s a labor organization representing workers in the following industries in North America: hospitality, gaming, apparel, textile, retail, distribution, food service and laundry. If you go to their site it says this:

My Nvidia Fail is an independent blog created by UNITE HERE. NVIDIA did not sponsor its content. UNITE HERE has a labor dispute with ARAMARK, a vendor for NVIDIA.

Basically there is a contract dispute over the food sources at NVIDIA and ARAMARK and in order to get a better contract the folks at ARAMARK have been tampering with the NVIDIA event. By handing out the fliers to the thousands in attendance they hope to get things patched up with NVIDIA? Is anyone else thinking this is crazy?

Speaking as one who has been through a couple of union contracts (on both sides) stirring up crap doesn't do much for you. More often than not it causes talks to last longer due to the fact they have to smooth over the new issue to get back to the first one.

Drags crap out and cost more money for both sides.

Aramark is a contract food service vendor that does a lot of catering and hospitals and institutions including backstage accommodation for some movies on location filming.

I worked with them at a local hospital when I was in IT there. During labor disputes they can be quite nasty. What gets me is the Institution they work with pays the on site workers paychecks. They just deliver the food and design the menus.

During the labor dispute at the local hospital they pasted fliers every where until a couple got arrested for criminal trespass.

We have them here at work too, not sure how the actual payment arrangement works though. Goofy stuff.

I've only seen one way they pay, the institution pays the in house workers but the workers answer to Aramark. (and some times the institution if things go south)

When I was on my Hospital tour (from Missouri to South Carolina) they were removed from about 20% of the institutions I worked with. Mostly being to rigid in their menu design and only having a two week menu that repeats indefinitely. Pretty good Biscuits and Gravy though.

They got a nice raise for the Food workers locally, for 9ish to 12 an hour (they deserved it 5-6 people feeding 1100 a day).

Aramark was the company that ran our dining hall in college. They sucked. Every time some sort of food was popular they would get rid of it!

Same! They are so greedy too, it's expensive for what you get. Their employees at my college are quite nice though, I used to get my stuff there pretty often and when you're nice to them they don't check their quantities ;)

We were so sick of these people by Tuesday night, we started getting belligerent towards them when they tried to hand us another flier. They even managed to get in to the second keynote speech Tuesday morning but were escorted out by security after they tried to hand a flier to a man who turned out to be an Nvidia employee.

Not true, I have had may good dealings with union workers, I used to be a teamster when I worked for UPS. Only takes a couple loud mouthed jack a!@!@ to ruin anything and most peoples perception of it.
