This has to be the single most beutiful piece of digital art I've seen in years. Whoever made this deserverd to win Assembly 07. For those of you who don't know what Assembly is, The Assembly demo party is a demoscene and gaming event in Finland. The demoscene is a computer art subculture that specializes in producing demos, which are non-interactive audio-visual presentations that run in real-time on a computer. So they're not simply films made in Flash, 3D Studio, or any other existing programming language.

This film is amazingly sureal. I recommend waiting to watch it until you have time to sit and watch undistracted with a decent set of speakers or headphones to appreciate the music.

Yeah, don't like clowns, but I may check this out when I get the chance. I love Tool, and their stage visuals are pretty cool/freaky.

Pretty cool stuff, really interesting visuals though it's a bit long so I doubt martini will be able to sit through it

i was able to sit through it if only for wanting to see how the clown would fit in it was pretty, but i had no clue what the fruck was going on or what it was supposed to mean (if anything)

It's a tech demo. The idea started back in the early 90's on the Amiga and early 386/486 PC's. The idea was to code the whole thing in assembly (hence the name of the party) and compose the music in the Amiga MOD audio format. For a good early example check out "Second Reality" by The Future Crew.

The point was to push the computer as far as they could in both audio and video. Many of the early demo's needed special hardware (for the time) like the Gravis Ultra Sound and math coprocessors. Over time it stopped really being about just pushing the machine but about making it into an art form. I'd thought they stopped having Aseembly back in 2004 but stumbled across that last night looking for a link to an old school demo for a friend.

thats reminded me of one of the old Minds Eye videos we used to get all messed up and watch back in my school days.
