Me too, where and how much?

Re: Canon 100MM Macro USM Lens
I'll have to look at it tonight but I think I had it stopped down...maybe to 8 or so at 100 ISO. Not sure what shutter speed, it set on it's own.

The lens is $400-500...I paid like $425. Next I need a nicer tele-zoom lens than the canon 18-55mm IS lens I have. I've been thinking about the 70-300mm IS lens which is about the same price as the macro lens.

Re: Canon 100MM Macro USM Lens
With the lack of DoF on that picture, I don't think you'd have been much over F2.8.
I've been looking at that 70-300 lense too, but have been thinking about how the majority of photos I take end up being on the wide end of my 17-85, and have been wondering about getting the Canon 10-22 instead.

I don't think it was 2.8...I took several pics at various settings so I forget but at 2.8 the DOF is incredibly short. Maybe I'll put up some other examples with settings tonight. We need an official photography thread

Re: Canon 100MM Macro USM Lens
yeah that is a sweet pic... i don't have any macro lens at all to be honest... Right now I have a 28-135mm lens on my canon XTi and a picture looks like this trying to copy what you did a bit...

Re: Canon 100MM Macro USM Lens
actually here is the best one yet... everything on the Canon SD770IS is on auto now...
I'm very happy with that on a $150 point and shoot camera that is set to auto everything.
I'm guessing that you have this $440 lens?

Re: Canon 100MM Macro USM Lens
It'll work Matt.
The only time you have to worry about some of the Canon lenses not working on your Canon camera is if you have a 5D or 1Ds (or film SLR), and if you've spent that much on a camera, you should know enough about it to know which ones don't and why.
*sigh* I want a F2.8 lens. But they're all so expensive and I probably shouldn't waste all my money that I've been saving on one.
I should probably get and make do with a nifty 50 before I decide what I want to spend my money on.

Nate, yes, that is the lens.
I'd really like to get the 70-200mm 2.8 L IS USM lens...it's only $1500
That thing is a beast too.

Those are some great lens and you get what you pay for. I don't think you can get better than that. L lens are my favorite too. I have a 17-40L f4 that I am very happy with.

I'm making a new thread so we can all post what cameras and lenses we have

Re: Canon 100MM Macro USM Lens
Now, compare these 2:
f8 f2.8 I told you it was a narrow DOF but this is to be expected on a macro lens.(I don't know why the image is attached again below???)

Re: Canon 100MM Macro USM Lens
You'd labelled them backwards on your post, which was funny.
Did you fix the double attachment showing up as I can only see the embedded-in-the-post ones.
I guess I didn't realise just how shallow F2.8's DoF actually is >_<
How close physically were you to the board?
Dan

It was about 6-8" from the board. I had it mounted on my gorillapod
