I did a nono

I went and bought a 80GB PS3, HDMI Cable, Dead Space, and The Dark Knight (BR).

My lady friend came over last night and was mesmerized by BluRay...all hooked up to Sony's best 26" LCD :)

Dead Space is cooooooooooooool by the way, check it out...first game to freak me out since RE1 (dogs jumping out at you randomly and loud noises by your self at 12 AM in complete darkness) when I was a kid.

Not to burst your bubble, but there will be a PS3 price drop soon.

Maybe you could take it back and buy it again when it drops!

I have wanted a PS3 for a while, RE5 looks good, and I love LBP... I just can't justify it yet.

Someone owed me money for computer work, brand new in box Ps3 80GB = $100 ;)

The HDMI Cable I'm "renting" from walmart until mine gets here from monoprice.com ($15 for 2x 10 ft, vs $30 1 x 6 ft, I think I'll go with two of them).

The game and movie cost me the same as the PS3 lol.

I wouldnt even honestly mess with an 80GB right now, you can get the 40gb and just upgrade the HD later (easy).

I'm downloading Re5 demo right now :)

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - good game
Force Unleashed - ehh - if you can figure out where to go, it isnt bad, but I would not highly recommend it.
Heavenly Sword - if you can get past the first boss thing, you might be ok - lol - follow the arrows, follow the button presses, and I still cant beat the idiot
COD:WaW - NICE!!!
NCAA Football 08 - great if you are a cheap bastard like myself and wont pay the $60 price tag for the new ones - hehehe
Endwar - buy it on sale with the headset, so you can at least you can say you just paid for the headset :p
RE5 - the demo did not impress me :(

I say it was a nice deal! Now to get a bigger tv so you can REALLY see the benefits of Blu-Ray!!!!!! I cant tell too much of a difference between blu-ray and regular dvds on my 32" (with upscaling of course), but the 50" is a HUGE difference!

Mike

Still havent played Dark Sector or Assassins Creed - argh - so many games, such little time..lol

Drakes Fortune was amazing. I'm looking forward to Among Thieves. Other than that, I haven't played a PS3 game that was worth a crap. Haze was horrible, I didn't really "play" MGS4 so much as participated in the experience, etc.

I basically use my PS3 as a BluRay player. It will be replaced soon with the new Oppo BluRay player.. dunno what I'll do with it then. I was fortunate enough to get one of the 1st gens that had the Emotion Engine chip as I use it to play PS2 games more than PS3 games.

Yeah, the TV I've got it on now is for my bedroom and it fits perfectly inside my enertainment center (too perfect)...the living room will be getting a 42" LCD and I'll be happy.

I'm limiting my self to one new game a month, or else I'll have no money left by the end of this month :)

Let me give you my address..lol - I hate that Sony took the PS2 compatibility out!!!! I want to play God of War and God of War II  Have to keep the ps2 around just for those.

Mike

It is REALLY good as a bluray player! also works great for upscaling regular dvds!!!

Works OK for upscaling. I'll still take my Oppo anyday of the week.

And no, you sure can't have my 1st Gen PS3. At least not until I'm done with Tales of the Abyss and my new Oppo BluRay player is here. :finga:

First generations...

I honestly can't believe anyone still plays the older games, after I beat them they usually stay on the shelf lol.

how do you tell if its a first gen?

i like to play old games (like my NFS's and GranTurismo's every once in a while(like play GT4, then go back to the original and laugh at the graphics)) and i only have 2 games for PS3...

It's the hard drive size.

The 20G and 60G are first gens that will play PS2 games using hardware support (the Emotion Chip). They also support SACD.

After the first gen release of the PS3 Sony decided to follow Microsofts (poor) example and switch to cheaper software emulation. The 80G version uses this software emulation. To my understanding it's pretty dang poor.

The rumor as to why the most recent released units don't support PS2 games at all is to force people to actually buy PS3 games. That's the only reason anyone can think that they would conciously omit a SOFTWARE solution which costs them nothing. They also eliminated the SACD support which is ironic as Sony developed the technology in the first place.
