Building A Truck: The Missouri Way

I'm not sure how many of you know this, but for over 15 years I've built off road trucks, classic cars, race cars and everything else you can think of... Yes 4wd golf carts with lifts, chainsaw blenders, alcohol powered racing go-carts... :)

One of my close friends that I grew up with got his hands onto an old 70's Ford 3/4 ton pickup truck with a 351W V-8 and did what everyone does... LIFT IT! This time around he went a bit crazy though.

It all started off on ebay when he found some 48" tall used military tires off an old truck. He then found some 20" tall dubs from another person on e-bay for cheap. He has a set of 48" tall tires and 20" chrome wheels for less than $600.

Mounting the tires took 3 people (myself included) using 4 foot pry bars to get the massive tires onto the wheels. Sadly we couldn't find a shop that could mount 48" tall tires. Would have been nice to go to walmart and drop them off!

The pictures are taken with my cell phone, so sorry for the quality.

Airing up the first tire:

The truck then had 14" lift springs installed with 6" blocks in the back. Due to the massive lift all the driveshafts and steering shafts had to be made from scratch. For this we used a piece of 6' long solid stainless steel that we had in the junk pile and bent it to the angle we need and then put on some heim joints...

Making the Steering Arm Fit:

As you can tell from the above picture from Saturday the truck is huge. Next stop is the body shop for new paint! I'll post more pictures when I get them.

I'd say that they were some pretty big tires........but the guy that lives down the street would call them baby tires that he would use to transport his monster truck on.......LOL. Lots of those monster truck boys out this way...................

not to mention bragging rights. everyone always claims their truck or car is the fastest/biggest, but hard to top this one as most people don't have military tires on their trucks. Besides it's all for summer fun. Take it out for a couple parties and run it in some mud runs and sell it :)
