ok, we need a camera section? I don't know how many others are photographers or like to have decent cameras lol. Computers seem like they go hand in hand.


Now I'm coming from a Panasonic FZ18. GREAT camera. But, it lost a fight to a grain of sand and when I put it back together a plastic piece broke so it's now un-fixable, if you want it let me know I'm ebaying it now. But, I'm in the market for a new digicam. Most people say to get a DSLR, but the pics I took with the thing were awesome and the price for a 510mm focal length was unmatched.

So digicams work for me. Maybe it's because I'm to good with CS3. But, these cameras all have their pros and cons. So I need some help choosing and I hope I can find it!!

best IQ even though I use it only about 40% of the time.
lower noise at higher iso (I can photoshop it most of the time anyways I think)

actual resolution is the lowest
although it has the best full crop 100% zoom it has BAD fringing!!!! (I never photoshoped this so I don't know how easy or hard it is)

Sometimes the NR is too high. And noise reduction in my opinion is bad since it takes 1 min in CS3 to remove better than a camera can.

I'm looking for someone who understands the actual use of the flaws and how easy or hard they are to overcome.

The zoom range is not TOO important since I do plan on buying the 3x telephoto lens for spy like pics? lol not really, but stars and superclose ups of distant objects is a very good feature especially of animals or boating pics

And before it's considered the New Olympus is out of the run because they are too dumb to use SD cards.

In my own personal preference, I would never choose any other company but Canon or Nikon(since they specialize in cameras) so I say go for the SX10. The previous incarnations of it were darn good so I expect no less from that version. I would recommend a DSLR myself but Canon has made excellent cameras that aren't SLR so I can't argue on that one

Yea, I really like the feel of the SX10 by canon I was mainly concerned with the fact that it has HORRIBLE fringing compared to the competition. P90 is better but not much.

Yea I know right, I just don't want to get the panasonic and a week later find out that fringing takes 10 seconds to fix. I downloaded a pic to play with that had it and turned down the magenta. It worked, and since the pic has magenta I just used the history brush to bring the color I needed back. It wasn't a pic from either of the cameras though.

If you can find one, the Panasonic DMC-LX3 is one of the best point and shoots you can get. F/2.0 - 2.8 throughout the focal range. Bad part (for some) is the limited zoom. I have had my eye out for one for a while.

I ended up buying the FZ28 I'll post a couple pics when it gets here. I had to since they had a 4x telephoto lens, camera, 3 polarized filters, adapter, case, 2 batteries, and 16gb Class 6 card, with a 60" tripod for $400 with overnight shipping
