Need Good Camera For ~ $200

Post by Major_A »

My younger sister is graduating from high school next month and her digital camera bit the dust a few months back (I think it is a Canon Powershot A70). Originally I planned on giving her some money, but that was when I had a steady paycheck. Now that times aren't so good and I'm living off of my savings I figure I'll just get her a decent digital camera. When it comes to digital cameras I am completely ignorant and I need all the help I can get. I bought a Canon SD1000 around a year ago and either I don't know what I'm doing or the camera isn't that great.

Couple things I would prefer:
1. SDHC memory card - they seem to be cheaper than other memory
2. Rechargeable battery

Other than that I have no other preferences, so please help me out.

Thanks.

Honestly that SD1000 is a pretty good camera . The new models are just as good if not better. There's always the SD1200 (which is $200 at the Egg) or you can get the A2000 IS($160-$170). The A2000 is a better choice IMO as it has double the zoom and same MegaPixel and $40 less but it uses AA batteries. That's pretty much the current lineup That I know of. other than they have a slew of colors to pick from. And I'm sure any of the camera people here would be happy to help with whatever issues or questions you have. I used to sell these things so I might be able to answer a question or two.

SD1200 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6830120330 (only one that comes with battery and own charger)

A2000 IS - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6830120286 ( uses AA batteries :( along with the A480 )

After looking around is this camera any good?
Panasonic DMC-TZ5S
Newegg and most places have it for around $230. I referred to Panasonic's website because they should have more information on the camera there. Thanks for the links to those cameras. I'll check them out in the morning when I wake up.

That Panasonic camera would probably crap on the Canons I linked.. If you can find it for $230 then I would go for it. I'm more of a Canon/Nikon guy but that Panasonic camera looks pretty darn good. Comes with it's own battery and charger which is a nice brownie point, along with the zoom it has. HD video recording at 30 fps and 15, for $230 hell yea I would go for it over the Canons

Yea they are good no doubt. and for the price on that TZ5 I would go for it myself if I didn't already have 2 cameras lol. I prefer cameras from a company who only specializes in Cameras. But Panasonic's been making cameras for a long time too so I could never say they are bad.
