So I think I'm a handy person. I replaced my AC compressor in my beater when it went out. I swapped out my struts when I was quoted 700. I turned some attic space into storage. Installed crown molding when someone said it was to hard. With the help of google, youtube, and homedepot my next project is a 16X16 deck that sits about 5 feet of the ground at its highest point. Will post pics later on tonight.

Just make sure you poor the pylon footings deep enough.

So the exact dimensions are 16X16 with the stairs cutting into 6 wide X 4 depth in the middle. I put the 6 post that home depot had designed but my I think I should add more support from the ledger to the beams. I went to lowes.com and designed a deck there and they added the extra support I want to add. My question to anyone who knows, should I add the extra support. I won't be adding a jacuzzi or anything extremely heavy.

Edit: So I talked to a buddy of mine who builds houses and he said to add the extra beam so I guess I renting the damn auger again.

I don't know what it was but a one man auger didn't do squat. I had to return it and get a two man. Even that had issues. It was about a foot of it. After that it was cake.

Digging post holes was always my least favorite job. My parents have a psuedo-farm (2 horses/2 stall barn). We built the barn, and what seemed like a mile of fencing. My dad and I dug just about half of those post holes by hand before he decided that it might be a good idea to get an auger to make it quicker.

augers? wow, how deep you putting the posts? I had to just dig a 4 x 4 x 5 dry well, at about half way down had to break out a jackhammer

digging a 3 foot post hole with a post hole digger and a tamping bar isn't awful, but digging 50 of those is terrible. The auger helped us get the job done without breaking our backs.
