Banks are thieves

Holy hell.. I just saw my bank statement. Damn banks are stealing money by raising the maintenance fees. ever since I had the account it was $5.95, I just checked and it went up to $8.95!! and that's just on my checking account!!...the only notice I got was from articles that were published 7 hours ago. I'm extremely upset about it. They take out money because they can't keep their crap together even after getting bailed out. Should be illegal IMO. good thing the bank is closed today. I really was so tempted to go ape on them, not that it would've done any good.(but I would've felt better afterwards)

I've been in some crooked credit unions too.

Best thing you could do is yank your account and go to another bank, or try and keep the min balance so you don't get the fees (its hard, I know some months I can't do it)

Totally sucks. I had a savings account and checking account with Commercial Federal (now Bank of the West) when I lived out in Denver. After I got laid off I let my savings account balance slip below the $100 minimum. Let's just say I don't always pay attention to the things that I probably should. So every month they took their fee out and it went down to zero in no time. I should have just closed the savings account, but instead lost around $50. I hate fees, especially these days when everything is electronic. I like how some places want to charge fees for handling things electronically - those are places I tend to avoid.

I've had pretty good luck with credit unions. I have an account with one in Ohio that has been good for me over the years.

I have all so notice that CU do better deals than banks. Before I opened my account I shopped a round on line and read the fine print to see how has the better deal and see what there fees were.
And has any one notice the CU are not in the news at all like bank are? I have, that's what help me decide to go with a CU.

Well, strictly speaking Credit Unions are forbidden from doing a lot of the shady activites banks did to get in this mess. When you're a part of the CU you actually have stake ownership in the union. Credit Unions cannot, to my understanding, operate on a for profit basis which is what seperates them from banks.

My bank pays me interest on both checking and savings. No fees.

Then again, it's great to bank with a local company rather than a national one.

Credit Unions do the same.
