well, my trusty ole' digital camera finally was broke on the 4th of July. I think i had it for 4 years or more. a couple of half drunk people fighting over a camera is never a good combo.... so it is time to get a new one. i don't need anything fancy. just your standard digital camera. i want something that is durable, a good size viewing screen, takes fast pictures (so i can just keep click away and not have to wait for it to "think" before i can take the next one), and does decent video (not that i use it much, but when i do, i want it to look fairly well.) I don't want to spend more than $150. suggestions please!

so hard to recommend a camera for decent video under $150 - most dont have any or hardly any zooms.
Check for any Panasonic Lumix cameras - mine does beautiful picture ( i have the 6mp 12X zoom though) -
http://www.twitpic.com/8il1a - view that puppy full size. I think for a small camera it is awesome.

happy birthday!
The video isn't really that important. the more main thing is that the camera will take solid pictures quickly and not have long load times in between.

I recommend Canon and Nikon. Sadly since I quit selling cameras a few years ago I haven't kept up with the latest models so I don't know which model which would be best. But I say Canon or Nikon to start with.

Thanx!
Make sure you get a FAST SD card! that will make the WORLD of difference when taking pics! They are all slower when you use the flash, but that is to be expected without haing a seperate flash mount.
AS for brand - ignore the names and go wit hthe one that has the best optics. You can have a Canon and have a no-name lens on it that sux or a friggin Polaroid with a nice lens that will blow it away.
