Brand Names and Mispronunciation

I don't know about most of you but there are a lot of brands out there that are never really spoken and heard out loud. For example how many times have you used the brand ASUS in a sentence? For the longest time when I see ASUS published I read it in my head as Ace-Us. I was watching a press video of the new ASUS Eee keyboard and I was surprised when they said the brand aloud as A-Seus.

Another example. At my last job I was talking to our web designer (he sat behind me so we had a lot of useless conversations) about Castle Wolfenstein. I refered to the the company as Eye-D and he called it ID (like Freud's Id and Ego).

Anyone else have a brand that you read for years had your own pronunciation only to find out you were wrong?

well to me Asus is (a-seus) haven't ran across to many that I didn't hear someone else pronouncing it the same way I was.

asus was one of those till I went to ROGCON hosted by them. and its pronounced Ah-suse. the "suse" being like a chinese trying to say shoes. LOL sorry..

In all honesty that is the only one that I can think of right now. I know one of my friends had fun with a brand radio Alinco a while back. He kept pronouncing it. Allen-co. NOO its Ah-link-co. Ill keep thinking.

Im really tired of people referring to Apple simply as "Mac"

I got a room mate who owns a macbook who constantly says things like "mac needs to fix my computer, im going to the mac store" or "mac needs to fix itunes"

but i suppose that's more misidentitey then mispronunciation

Some words come to mind that people on the left coast and people in Boston say and it's the word 'idea."
We would say idea. They would say idear. Were did the "r" come from?

Another bad one from the left coast is escape. The say it as excape. It must be some sort of Alcatraz lingo.

And yet, one last left coast word if you listen to them very carefully is the word other. They say it as nother.

Say what ??

Lastly, the folks in the mid-south say the word for tire, like the wheel on a car as tie-ar. And if they feel tired, they say the same thing of tie-ar. So, half the time I need to figure out if they are tired or need rubber for a wheel.
