I think I'm going to start deer hunting again this year and I need a holster for my 1911. In the past there have been a few instances where a pistol would've been nice and my .30-06 was overkill (especially when I didn't know how clean I hit a bobcat one year). I'm looking for something that attaches to my belt and thigh. Reason I want this setup is because riding a four wheeler through rough terrain might be too much for just a belt holster and I don't want my 1911 to end up in the mud.

I was looking on cheaperthandirt and found this holster but it doesn't seem to have very good reviews. What I plan on packing is my Taurus PT1911 with a 5" barrel. Right now I don't have the muzzle brake on the gun but I don't know if I'll eventually put it back on either.

I hunt with a pistol, granted its a revolver and not my .45, but you might want to look for a nice shoulder holster. Gun is less likely to get tore up tromping through the brush.

Good point, didn't cross my mind that limbs and other debris would likely scratch the gun to hell. I don't plan on shooting a deer with a 45, I just want a backup. When I shot my first bobcat it fell over immediately and I waited ten minutes to get out of the stand. When I got closer I couldn't see an entrance wound or blood on the ground. If it did move I would've probably freaked and shot it again with 180 grain .30-06 round from 2 feet away. Rather have a big slow moving hollow point at that distance.
