A DEADLY plague could sweep across Europe, doctors fear, after an outbreak of a virus in Ukraine plunged the country and its neighbours into a state of panic.

A cocktail of three flu viruses are reported to have mutated into a single pneumonic plague, which it is believed may be far more dangerous than swine flu. The death toll has reached 189 and more than 1 million people have been infected, most of them in the nine regions of Western Ukraine.

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko has called in the World Health Organisation and a team of nine specialists are carrying out tests in Kiev and Lviv to identify the virus. Samples have been sent to London for analysis.

President Yushchenko said: “People are dying. The epidemic is killing doctors. This is absolutely inconceivable in the 21st Century.”

If it hits Europe, it will be transferred all over the world. I dont think Ukraine is a favorite vacation spot, but Europe sure is!

At least it is a VERY small death percentage so far - I know 189 people dead is nothing to sneeze at, but it could be a LOT worse! just think if it had even a 10% mortality rate!

Preliminary genetic sequencing shows that the virus is similar to the virus used for production of the pandemic influenza vaccine, reconfirming the vaccine's efficacy at this time.

Let's call this one "Sheep Flu"

this virus was created and delivered to the public by the same baxter pharmaceutical company, that was cut (by the Chech's) delivering contaminated swine flu vaccines (72kg of it). Baxter was reported to the FBI for this because 72kg is no accident. Now they did it again and people are dying. the first outbreak in Ukraine was beside a baxter factory and labs - who thinks this is an accident? there are reports that state that baxter revived the 1918 spanish flu virus, extracted from remains of dead soldiers.
BTW, martial law was implemented in Ukraine because of this...

When you read things like this it reminds me of the movie, "I AM LEGEND". Virus sweeping across the world and the good ole' government comes racing to the rescue with the magic cure. With our own government trying to implement socialized medicine down our throats you'll get immunized or else.

The H5N1 is nothing to sneeze at nor have it sneezed on you. The higher the HX number the more severe the number of deaths are predicted. So far 5 is the highest on the scale.

I got a bunch of friends who live in the tourist town of Odessa in the Ukraine.

This is not fun.

My work place has installed 12 Purell hand sanitizer stations and one in each restroom. If you go through a doorway to open a door a station can be found there. If you are ever at a truck stop in my neck of the woods keep your hands clean. haha

This is absolutely not true. This is so far from being factual that I can't even think of an analogy to put it into perspective for a human audience. Were I the world's most clever educator and you the world's most capable learners, still I would not be able to convey the amount of misinformation packed into such a simple sentence.

The H's and N's are just genetic subtypes of Hemagglutinin and Neuraminidase respectively. They are two of the virulence factors that make the flu able to cause illness. They are also the target of drug therapy. Tamiflu or oseltamivir works by blocking the action of neuraminidase.

The numbers are just numbers. They are no more quantitative than blood types are. Like Vitamins. Vitamin A is not better than B or C or D, etc. Just numbers I promise.

I think we actually have 15 or 16 known Hemagglutinin types, and new ones are just given subsequent numbers and are not reordered based upon virulence because the subtype doesn't correlate directly with virulence so it can't actually be done.

To be fair though, H5N1 actually is a deadly virus, but not a lot more deadly than any of the other seasonal flu viruses.

I'm surprised there isn't any talk about this. Everyone's worried bout Swine, rushing to get the vaccine, etc. I for one will not be getting the vaccine. Never liked needles, don't see a point for getting the vaccine, etc.

Oh, and I'm not surprised if Swine Flu turns out to be the Spanish Flu. It's been said that the Spanish Flu is being used to create vaccines just in case of a pandemic.

So I can't decide if its good or bad that the plague is serious. Is it good or bad that all the hype is actually real this time?

They have the live attenuated vaccine that you spray up your nose. That's what I got because there is a shortage of the shot. Kids under 2 can't get the mist and pregnant women aren't supposed to get the mist and anyone over 50 can't get the mist so that is what most clinics have available right now. My head felt like it was going to explode the night I got it, but after that I felt fine and now i won't bring the flu home from the hospital to my 4 month old or give the flu to any patient sick enough to be in the hospital.

The point in getting the vaccine is to prevent the spread of disease. A vaccinated individual is like a firewall. Get enough of them and you can even protect the idiots who don't believe in security.

I'm with you geokilla, the more I have been reading and watching videos there is no way I am going to get a flu shot or a spray up my nose. Baxter let the Genie out of the bottle! sbohdan you are so right!

Illuminati, they changed the way that they make the shot. It's got stuff in there that has not been tested yet. I can handle all kinds of shots and stuff but this is different. Do your homework on this one, It could save your life.

Just search Baxter H1N1 vaccine or baxter flu vaccine. The more you dig the more you will find. After my search, I didn't like what I found. I hope that you take the time and put the pieces together for yourself. You may find nothing or maybe you will. I guess it all depends on what you believe or trust.
